By the Triangle Inequality Theorem, the sum of two sides should be greater than the length of the third side, while the difference of these two sides should be less than the length of this third side. Normally you would take the absolute value of the difference of these two side as you wouldn't know which is greater than the other!

The simplest way to prove whether these line segments can form a triangle, is by going against this theory. Let us prove that the line segment don't form a triangle. As you can see, adding 7 and 1 is greater than 1, respectively 7 and 7 is greater than 1. Thus -

A veterinary study of horses looked water sources for horses and the investigators found that horses received water from either
Irina18 [472]

Answer:

d. Water Source Well City Water Stream Expected Count 45.33 45.33 45.33

Step-by-step explanation:

Hello!

The objective of this study is to test whether the horses are equally likely to get water from one of three sources (Well, City or Stream), i.e. that the water sources have the same probability of being used.

The study variable is categorical:

X: Origin of the drinking water of the horses, categorized: Well "W", City "C" and Stream "S"

And one study population:

"Horses"

If the study hypothesis is that the three water sources are equally to be selected, you can symbolize it as P(W)=P(C)=P(S)=1/3

You want to test if the observed distribution follows an expected distribution, the test to use is a Chi-Square Goodness of Fit Test.

The hypothesis is:

H₀: P(W)=P(C)=P(S)=1/3

Under the null hypothesis, the formula to calculate the expected frequencies is:

e_{i}= n * P_{i}

Where:

e_{i} is the expected value of the i-category.

P_{i} is the probability for the i-category under the null hypothesis.

n= sample size.

Observed frequencies:

Well: 62

City: 43

Stream: 31

Total: 136

Expected frequencies:

e_{W}= n * P_{W} = 136*1/3 = 45.33

e_{C}= n * P_{C}= 136 * 1/3= 45.33

e_{S}= n * P_{S}= 136 * 1/3= 45.33

Typ, if the expected frequencies are correctly calculated, the sum of them must give the total of the sample (although depending on the type of approximation it can vary in one or two decimals)

45.33 * 3= 135.99 ≅ 136

I hope it helps!

An energy drink container in the shape of a right circular cylinder must have a volume of 19 fluid ounces (1 fluid ounce is appr
omeli [17]

Answer:

the dimension that will minimize cost are radius of 2.79 inch and height of cylinder of 1.40 inch.

Step-by-step explanation:

volume of a circular cylinder = πr²h

volume of 19 fluid ounces (1 fluid ounce is approximately 1.80469 cubic inches) = 19* 1.80469 =34.28911 in³

The cost per square inch of constructing the top and bottom is twice the cost of constructing the lateral side, means

surface area of top + bottom = surface area of side

area of circle(top + bottom) = πr²+πr² = 2πr²

area of the side = 2πrh

the cost of top and bottom = twice the cost of side

2πr² = 2( 2πrh) =  4πrh

divide both side by  2πr

r=  4πrh/ 2πr =2h

r = 2h

for volume = πr²h = 34.28911 in³

and r = 2h

π(2h)²h =34.28911 in³

4πh³ = 34.28911 in³

h³ = 34.28911 /(4*3.142) = 2.7283 in³

h = cube root of 2.7283 in³ = 1.397 inch

r = 2*  1.76 = 2.794 inch

the dimension that will minimize cost are radius of 2.79 inch and height of cylinder of 1.40 inch.

Eighty-five more than the square of a number is the same as the square of the quantity that is $17$ less than the number. What i
Usimov [2.4K]
To solve that we first need to write it as an equation where x is the number:
85 + x^2 = (x-17)^2
85 + x^2 = x^2 - 34x + 289
Now organize the equation by gathering like terms in the same side lf the equation:
You can shift 85 to the other side by subtracting 85 from both sides of the equation:

85 - 85 + x^2 =x^2 34x +289 - 85
x^2 =x^2 + 34x +204

And shift x^2 to the other side by subtracting x^2 from both sides:
x^2 - x^2 =x^2 -x^2 + 34x +204
0 = 34x + 204

Shift 34x to the other side by subtracting 34x from sides
-34x = 34x - 34x + 204
-34x = 204

And now isolate x by dividing both sides of the equation by -34
-34/-34x = 204/-34
x = -6
Thats your awnser , the number is -6
I hope you understood my brief explanation...
