Look at the graph. On a coordinate plane, a graph increases through (negative 1, 4), levels off at (0, negative 3), and then inc

reases up through (2, 5). Leslie analyzed the graph to determine if the function it represents is linear or non-linear. First she found three points on the graph to be (–1, –4), (0, -3), and (2, 5). Next, she determined the rate of change between the points (–1, –4) and (0, -3) to be StartFraction negative 3 minus (negative 4) Over 0 minus (negative 1) EndFraction = StartFraction 1 Over 1 EndFraction = 1. and the rate of change between the points (0, -3) and (2, 5) to be StartFraction 5 minus (negative 3) Over 2 minus 0 EndFraction = StartFraction 8 Over 2 EndFraction = 4. Finally, she concluded that since the rate of change is not constant, the function must be linear. Why is Leslie wrong? The points (–1, –4), (0, –3), and (2, 5) are not all on the graph. The expressions StartFraction negative 3 minus (negative 4) Over 0 minus (negative 1) EndFraction and StartFraction negative 3 minus (negative 5) Over 2 minus 0 EndFraction both equal 1. She miscalculated the rates of change. Her conclusion is wrong. If the rate of change is not constant, then the function cannot be linear.

A group of vendors in a city determines that the equation yˆ=11.984x+15.341 models the total number of shorts they will sell eac
Virty [35]
Given the equation of a line of the form: y = mx + c, where m is the slope and c is the y-intercept.
y is the dependent variable while x is the independent variable.

The value c represents the initial value of the situation represented by the line. i.e. the value of the dependent variable (y) when the independent variable (x) is 0.

The value m is the slope and represents the amount with hich the dependent variable increases for each additional increase in the value of the independent variable.

Thus, given the equation: <span>y=11.984x+15.341,
where: y represents the total number of shorts sold each day, and x represents the day’s high temperature in °F.

The slope is 11.984 or approximately 12 and it represents the increase in the number of shorts sold for each additional increase in temperature.

Therefore, </span><span>the slope of the equation represents in context of the situation that '</span><span>The vendors will sell an additional 12 pairs of shorts for every 1° increase in temperature.' (option B)</span>

NEED HELP ON NUMBER 13 AND 14
Kazeer [188]

Answer:

Question 13: For age groups y=1 and y=1.3 response is 8 microseconds.

Question 14: The club was making a loss between 11.28 and 4.88 years.

Step-by-step explanation:

Question 13:

The age group y for which the response rate R is 8 microseconds  is given by the solution of the equation

8=y^4 +2y^3 - 4y^2 -5y +14.

We graph this equation and find the solutions to be

y=1;   y=1.302;     y=-2;    y=-2.302.

Since only positive solutions for y are valid in the real world we take only those.

Thus only for age groups y=1 and y=1.3 the response is 8 microseconds.

Question 14:

The footbal club is making a loss when p(t)

Or

t^3 -14t^2 +20t +120

We graph this inequality and find the solutions to be

t and 4.88

Since in the real world only positive values for t are valid, we take the the second solution to be true.

Thus the club was making a loss in years 4.88
