Answer:

option D.

Both the average kinetic energy and the average speed of the Xe(g) atoms that will occur as the mixture approaches thermal equilibrium will decrease.

Explanation:

Kinetic Energy is simply said to be the energy of motion, that is when an object moved from one position to another the energy that it gains is called the kinetic energy. It is represented mathematically by 1/2mv². Where m is the mass of the object and v is the velocity of the object.

The average Kinetic energy is the average of all kinetic energies of a particle. The average Kinetic energy is represented mathematically by 3/2RT.

The temperature of Xe which is at 50°C is greater that the temperature of He which is at at 25°C will decrease when it reaches equilibrium after mixing. Hence, the average kinetic energy and the average speed of the Xe(g) atoms that will occur as the mixture approaches thermal equilibrium will decrease.

THE GUILDING PRINCIPLE: We have that the average speed and KE decreases with temperature and vice versa for real gases.

In two or more complete sentences describe all of the van der Waals forces that exist between molecules of sulfur
zavuch27 [327]

Answer:

Dipole-Dipole attraction

Explanation:

Dipole-dipole attraction is a type of vander waals forces found in the molecules of sulfur dioxide.

Vander waals forces are weak attractions joining non-polar and polar molecules together. They are of two types:

 • London dispersion forces which are weak attractions found between non-polar molecules.
 • Dipole-Dipole attraction are the forces of attraction which exists between polar molecules. Such molecules have permanent dipoles. This implies that the positive pole of one molecule attracts the negative pole of another. This is what happens between the oxygen and sulfur molecules.

Arrange the following in order of increasing boiling point: RbCl, CH3Cl, CH3OH, CH4. A. CH3OH < CH4 < CH3Cl < RbCl B. R
rosijanka [135]

Answer:

E. CH₄ < CH₃Cl < CH₃OH < RbCl

Explanation:

The molecule with the stronger intermolecular forces will have the higher boiling point.

The order of strength of intermolecular forces (strongest first) is

 • Ion-Ion
 • Hydrogen bonding
 • Dipole-dipole
 • London dispersion

RbCl is a compound of a metal and a nonmetal. It is an ionic compound, so it has the highest boiling point.

CH₃Cl has a C-Cl polar covalent bond. It has dipole-dipole forces, so it has the second lowest boiling point.

CH₃OH has an O-H bond. It has hydrogen bonding, so it has the second highest boiling point.

CH₄ has nonpolar covalent C-H bonds. It has only nonpolar bonds, so the only attractive forces are London dispersion forces. It has the lowest boiling point.

Thus, the order of increasing boiling points is

CH₄ < CH₃Cl < CH₃OH < RbCl

In the following list, only ________ is not an example of a chemical reaction. the production of hydrogen gas from water the tar
Vika [28.1K]

Answer: Option (c) is the correct answer.

Explanation:

A chemical reaction is defined as the reaction where a chemical bond will break in order to form a new bond due to the formation of a new substance.

For example, 2Na + Cl_{2} \rightarrow 2NaCl

Here, NaCl is the new substance that is formed. A chemical reaction will always bring change in chemical composition of a substance.

The production of hydrogen gas from water, the tarnishing of a copper penny, charging a cellular phone and burning a plastic water bottle are all chemical reactions.

Whereas a reaction where no change in chemical composition of a substance takes place is known as a physical reaction.

For example, chopping a log into sawdust will change the shape but it will not bring any change in chemical composition of the substance.

Thus, we can conclude that in the following list, only chopping a log into sawdust is not an example of a chemical reaction.
