To change a liquid into gas, we need a corresponding amount of heat to supply for it to happen. This process of called evaporation where it involves the phase change from liquid to gas. The heat needed here is called the latent heat of vaporization and this value is equal to 171 kJ per mole as given above. To determine the mass of sodium chloride in the process above, we determine the moles of NaCl from the given equation. We do as follows:

q = nΔH
n = q / ΔH
n = 452 kJ / ( 171 kJ / mol )
n = 2.6433
mass = 2.6433 mol ( 58.44 g / 1 mol ) = 154.47 g NaCl

The equation that is necessary in order to solve this item, is already written in the question as,
     q = n(delta)H

However it was not defined which among the given heat constants is to be used. The situation given in this item is the changing of the phase from liquid to gas. Therefore, this involves the heat of vaporization (delta)Hvap.

The amount of NaCl is calculated through the equation,
   n = q/ (delta Hvap)

Substituting the known values,
   n = (452 kJ) / (171 kJ/mol)
  n = 2.64 mol

Then, we multiply the obtained value by the molar mass of NaCl, 58.44 g/mol.

   m = (2.64 mol)(58.44 g/mol)
   m = 154.28 g

ANSWER: 154.28 g

Identify the true statements about surface tension. Molecules along the surface of a liquid behave differently than those in the
Alexxandr [17]

Answer:

Molecules along the surface of a liquid behave differently than those in the bulk liquid.

Cohesive forces attract the molecules of the liquid to one another.

Water forming a droplet as it falls from a faucet is a primary example of surface tension.

Explanation:

Surface tension is the force that stretches the liquid surface. This force acts normal to the surface. It is the downward force that acts on the surface of the liquids which is due to the cohesive forces of the liquids.

The water molecules are bonded by a strong hydrogen bond force which is between hydrogen atom and the electronegative oxygen atom. At the surface the water molecules are attracted strongly by other water molecules which lies below the surface and are stretched at the surface. Thus the water molecules at the surface acts differently than in the bulk liquid.

Mercury have a strong cohesive force than the water and have a higher surface tension force than the water.

Surface water acquires minimum surface area, hence acquiring spherical shape of water.

14) The central iodine atom in the ICl4- ion has __________ nonbonded electron pairs and __________ bonded electron pairs in its
masha68 [24]

Answer:

Two non bonded electron pairs and four bonded electron pairs

Explanation:

An image of the compound as obtained from chemlibretext is attached to this answer.

The ion ICl4- ion, is an AX4E2 ion. This implies that there are four bond pairs and two lone pairs of electrons. As expected, the shape of the ion is square planar since the lone pairs are found above and below the plane of the square. This is clear from the image attached.
