43.586 rounded to the nearest tenth is <u>43.6</u>, nearest hundredth is <u>43.59</u> and nearest ones is <u>44</u>.

FURTHER EXPLANATION

<em>Place Values  </em>

Every digit in a number is assigned a place value. The place value determines the value or size of the digit based on its position in the number. In decimal numbers, the numbers to the left of the decimal point are the whole part and the numbers appearing after the decimal point is the decimal part.

Example: 12.3456

The place values of the digits in the given example are as follows:

1 – tens  (10)

2 – ones (2)

3 – tenths (0.3)

4 – hundredths (0.04)

5 – thousandths (0.005)

6 – ten thousandths (0.0006)

Adding the values in the expanded form will give the number:

10 + 2 + 0.3 + 0.04 + 0.005 + 0.0006 = 12.3456

<em>Rounding Off Rules </em>

Sometimes numbers have to expressed with fewer place values or decimal places. To find out what the rounded number will be, a set of rules are followed to standardize the rounding off:

1. If the digit to be rounded is followed by a digit that is less than 5 (0,1,2,3,4), the digit will be unchanged and the numbers after it are dropped.

Example: 2.344 rounded to the nearest tenth is 2.3

2. If the digit to be rounded is followed by a digit greater than or equal to 5, the last digit must be increased by 1 and the succeeding digits are dropped.

Example: 4.584 rounded to the nearest tenth is 4.6

<em>Some Important Terms </em>

  • When a digit is to be"rounded to the nearest tenths", it means that the resulting number will have one decimal place.
  • "Rounded to the nearest hundredths" means the rounded number will have two decimal places.

For the given number 43.586, the place values of the digits are as follows:

4 – tens

3 – ones

5 – tenths

7 - hundredths

8 – thousandths

6 – ten thousandths

<em><u>Rounding to the nearest tenths </u></em>

43.586 will become 43.6

<em>The digit in the tenths place is 5. It is immediately followed by 8. 8 is greater than 5 so the last digit will be increased. </em>

<em><u>Rounding to the nearest hundredths </u></em>

43.586 will become 43.59

<em>8 is the digit in the hundredths place. It is followed by 6 which is greater than 5. Therefore, add 1 to 8 and it becomes 43.59. </em>

<em><u>Rounding to the nearest ones </u></em>

43.586 will become 44

<em>The digit with the ones place value is 3. It is succeeded by 5 so the last digit 3 must be increased by 1 becoming 44. </em>

The harmonic motion of a particle is given by f(t) = 2 cos(3t) + 3 sin(2t), 0 ≤ t ≤ 8. (a) When is the position function decreas
iren [92.7K]

For the last part, you have to find where f'(t) attains its maximum over 0\le t\le8. We have

f'(t)=-6\sin3t+6\cos2t

so that

f''(t)=-18\cos3t-12\sin2t

with critical points at t such that

-18\cos3t-12\sin2t=0

3\cos3t+2\sin2t=0

3(\cos^3t-3\cos t\sin^2t)+4\sin t\cos t=0

\cos t(3\cos^2t-9\sin^2t+4\sin t)=0

\cos t(12\sin^2t-4\sin t-3)=0

So either

\cos t=0\implies t=\dfrac{(2n+1)\pi}2

or

12\sin^2t-4\sin t-3=0\implies\sin t=\dfrac{1\pm\sqrt{10}}6\implies t=\sin^{-1}\dfrac{1\pm\sqrt{10}}6+2n\pi

where n is any integer. We get 8 solutions over the given interval with n=0,1,2 from the first set of solutions, n=0,1 from the set of solutions where \sin t=\dfrac{1+\sqrt{10}}6, and n=1 from the set of solutions where \sin t=\dfrac{1-\sqrt{10}}6. They are approximately

\dfrac\pi2\approx2

\dfrac{3\pi}2\approx5

\dfrac{5\pi}2\approx8

\sin^{-1}\dfrac{1+\sqrt{10}}6\approx1

2\pi+\sin^{-1}\dfrac{1+\sqrt{10}}6\approx7

2\pi+\sin^{-1}\dfrac{1-\sqrt{10}}6\approx6

Paul can install a 300-square-foot hardwood floor in 18 hours. Matt can install the same floor in 22 hours. How long would it ta
Marrrta [24]

Answer: B. 9.9 hours

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : Paul can install a 300-square-foot hardwood floor in 18 hours.

We consider whole job as 1.

Rate of work per hour for Paul = r_1=\dfrac{1}{18}

Matt can install the same floor in 22 hours.

Rate of work per hour for Matt = r_2=\dfrac{1}{22}

Now , when they both work together , the rate of work = r=\dfrac{1}{t} , where t is time taken by both together.

Since , r=r_1+r_2

\dfrac{1}{t}=\dfrac{1}{18}+\dfrac{1}{22}

\dfrac{1}{t}=\dfrac{11+9}{198}=\dfrac{20}{198}=\dfrac{10}{99}\\\\\Rightarrow\ t=\dfrac{99}{10}=9.9

Hence, it would take 9.9 hours to install the floor working together.

Therefore , the correct answer is  B. 9.9 hours .
