When a 75 kg man sits on the stool, by what percent does the length of the legs decrease? assume, for simplicity, that the stool

's legs are vertical and that each bears the same load?

The percentage decrease in the length of the stool’s legs is \boxed{3.84 \times {{10}^{-3}\%}}.

Further explanation:

Here, we have to calculate the percentage of change in the length of the stool leg.

Consider the stool’s legs are made up of wood.

Given:

The mass the man is 75{\text{ kg}}.

Diameter of the leg of the stool is 2.5{\text{ cm}} = 0.025{\text{ m}}

Young’s modulus (E) of the wood is 1.3 \times10^{10}\text{ N/m}^2}.

Formula and concept used:

Number of the legs \left( n \right) in the stool is 3{\text{ legs}}.

Weight of the man can be calculated as,

\boxed{W = mg}

Here, m is the mass of the man, g is the acceleration due to gravity.

So, weight of the man will be,

\begin{aligned}W&=75 \times 9.8\\W&=735{\text{ N}}\\\end{aligned}

Since, each leg is vertical and bears the same load.

So, the load on each leg will be,

\begin{aligned}F&=\frac{W}{3}\\F&=\frac{{735}}{3}\\F&=245{\text{ N}}\\\end{aligned}

Now the longitudinal stress in the stool’s leg can be calculated as,

\boxed{\sigma= \frac{F}{A}}                                                     …… (1)

Here, A is the cross-sectional area of the leg.

Cross-sectional area of the leg cab be calculated as,

A=\dfrac{\pi }{4}{d^2}

Substitute this value of A in equation (1).

\sigma= \dfrac{{4F}}{{\pi {d^2}}}                                         …… (2)

Now, linear strain in the leg will be,

\varepsilon= \dfrac{\sigma }{E}

Substitute the value of \sigma  from equation (2) in the above equation.

\varepsilon=\dfrac{{4F}}{{\pi {d^2}E}}                                     …… (3)

Calculation:

Substitute the value of F as 245{\text{ N}}, value of d as 0.025{\text{ m}} and the value of E as 1.3 \times {10^{10}}\text{ N/m}^2 in equation (3).

\begin{aligned}\varepsilon&=\frac{{4\left( {245} \right)}}{{\pi {{\left( {0.025} \right)}^2}\left( {1.3\times{{10}^{10}}}\right)}}\\&=\frac{{980}}{{25.525\times {{10}^6}}}\\&=3.84\times{10^{-5}}\\\end{aligned}

Strain can be expressed as,

\varepsilon=\dfrac{{{l_2} - {l_1}}}{{{l_1}}}

Here, {l_2} is less than {l_1} due to compression of the legs.

So, above equation can be written as,

\begin{aligned}\frac{{{l_2} - {l_1}}}{{{l_1}}}&=3.84 \times {10^{ - 5}}\\\left( {\frac{{{l_2} - {l_1}}}{{{l_1}}}} \right)\%&=3.84 \times {10^{ - 5}} \times 100\\&=\boxed{3.84 \times {{10}^{ - 3}}\% }\\\end{aligned}

Thus, the percentage decrease in the length of the stool’s legs is \boxed{3.84 \times {{10}^{-3}\%}}.

First, let's find the total force exerted by the man on the stool.

F = mg
F = (75 kg)(9.81 m/s²)
F = 735.75 N

Next, we must know the maximum load the stool can take. Suppose, the it can take up to 700 N. Since each leg of the stool takes an equal amount of force, this is uniformly distributed. So, the solution is as follows:

Percentage = [(735.75- 700)/700]*100 =<em> 5.1%</em>

A child on a sled starts from rest at the top of a 15.0° slope. If the trip to the bottom takes 22.6 s how long is the slope? As
Nina [5.8K]

Answer:

648 m

Explanation:

Let the length of slope be 'L' m.

Given:

Initial velocity of the child (u) = 0

Angle of inclination of the slope (x) = 15.0°

Time taken to reach the bottom (t) = 22.6 s

Acceleration due to gravity (g) = 9.8 m/s²

No frictional forces act.

Now, acceleration acting on the child along the slope can be determined by resolving the acceleration due to gravity along the slope.

So, acceleration along the slope is given as:

a_{slope}=g\sin(x)=9.8\sin(15)=2.536\ m/s^2

Now, use to equation of motion along the slope to find the length of slope.

Therefore,

L=ut+\frac{1}{2}a_{slope}t^2\\\\L=0+\frac{1}{2}(2.536)(22.6)^2\\\\L=1.268\times 510.76=647.6\approx 648\ m

Therefore, the slope is 648 m long.

Option (1) is correct.

A car drives off a cliff next to a river at a speed of 30 m/s and lands on the bank on theother side. The road above the cliff i
dezoksy [38]

Answer:1.301 s

Explanation:

Given

Initial Velocity(u)=30 m/s

Height of cliff=8.3 m

Time taken to cover 8.3 m

h=ut+\frac{at^2}{2}

here Initial vertical velocity is 0

8.3=\frac{gt^2}{2}

t^2=1.69

t=1.301 s

Horizontal distance

R=u\times t

R=30\times 1.301=39.04 m

If Pete ( mass=90.0kg) weights himself and finds that he weighs 30.0 pounds, how far away from the surface of the earth is he
shutvik [7]

Answer: 9938.8 km

Explanation:

1 pound-force = 4.48 N

30.0 pounds-force = 134.4 N

The force of gravitation between Earth and object on the surface of is given by:

F = \frac{GMm}{R^2} = mg

Where M is the mass of the Earth, m is the mass of the object, R (6371 km) is the radius of the Earth.

At height, h above the surface of the Earth, the weight of the object:

(mg)'= \frac{GMm}{(R+h)^2}

we need to find "h"

taking the ratio of two:

\frac{mg}{(mg)'}=\frac{(R+h)^2}{R^2}\\ \Rightarrow \frac{90kg \times 9.8 m/s^2}{134.4 N}=\frac{(R+h)^2}{R^2}\\ \Rightarrow 6.56 R^2= (R+h)^2 \Rightarrow h= (2.56-1)R\\ \Rightarrow h = 1.56 R = 1.56 \times 6371 km = 9938. 8 km

Hence, Pete would weigh 30 pounds at 9938.8 km above the surface of the Earth.

Answer:

A. <u>The water decreases the friction between the floor and the feet </u>

Explanation: Think about it like this, when your in the shower and water is on your skin, you can scrub it fluidly, but when the water dries in your towel, there is more friction when your rub your skin, this is because the molecules in water aren't as compact as solids, so anything acting against it, is most likely to disperse from it.

marta [7]

Answer:

Stars live to long to be observed from birth to death

Explanation:

The life expectancy of a star are millions of years compared to that of human thereby making it difficult to study the life path and activities of the stars till the point of extinction. This brought about scientist studying different star with different ages in order to answer their burning question on formation of stars which is called the figuring out process(stellar activity) and this makes it difficult and tedious.
