Evaluate \dfrac j4 4 j ? start fraction, j, divided by, 4, end fraction when j=12j=12j, equals, 12.
cricket20 [7]

We need to evaluate the value of fraction \frac{j}{4}.

We also given j=12.

In order to evaluate the value of fraction \frac{j}{4}, we need to plug j=12.

Plugging j=12, we get

\frac{j}{4}= \frac{12}{4}

We have 12 in numerator and 4 in denominator.

We always divide top number by bottom number.

So, we need to divide 12 by 4.

On dividing 12 by 4 we get 3.

<h3>Therefore, \frac{j}{4} = 3.</h3>

Phoenix [80]

Answer:

a) The 95% confidence interval would be given (0.0702;0.1098).

We can conclude that the true population proportion at 95% of confidence is between (0.0702;0.1098)

b) Since the confidence interval NOT contains the value 0.06 we  have anough evidence to reject the claim at 5% of significance.

Step-by-step explanation:

Previous concepts

A confidence interval is "a range of values that’s likely to include a population value with a certain degree of confidence. It is often expressed a % whereby a population means lies between an upper and lower interval".

The margin of error is the range of values below and above the sample statistic in a confidence interval.

Normal distribution, is a "probability distribution that is symmetric about the mean, showing that data near the mean are more frequent in occurrence than data far from the mean".

p represent the real population proportion of interest

\hat p =0.09 represent the estimated proportion for the sample

n=800 is the sample size required

z represent the critical value for the margin of error

Confidence =0.95 or 95%

Part a

The population proportion have the following distribution

p \sim N(p,\sqrt{\frac{p(1-p)}{n}})

The confidence interval would be given by this formula

\hat p \pm z_{\alpha/2} \sqrt{\frac{\hat p(1-\hat p)}{n}}

For the 95% confidence interval the value of \alpha=1-0.95=0.05 and \alpha/2=0.025, with that value we can find the quantile required for the interval in the normal standard distribution.

z_{\alpha/2}=1.96

The margin of error is given by :

Me=z_{\alpha/2} \sqrt{\frac{\hat p(1-\hat p)}{n}}

Me=1.96 \sqrt{\frac{0.09(1-0.09)}{800}}=0.0198

And replacing into the confidence interval formula we got:

0.09 - 1.96 \sqrt{\frac{0.09(1-0.09)}{800}}=0.0702

0.09 + 1.96 \sqrt{\frac{0.108(1-0.09)}{800}}=0.1098

And the 95% confidence interval would be given (0.0702;0.1098).

We can conclude that the true population proportion at 95% of confidence is between (0.0702;0.1098)

Part b

Since the confidence interval NOT contains the value 0.06 we  have anough evidence to reject the claim at 5% of significance.

What's Chen error

Chen error is at step 2 where he changed 0.9 to 9.

Any changes made on the divisor must also be made on the dividend

He got 9 by multiplying 0.9 by 10;

So, his mistake is that he should have multiplied both numbers by the same number.

From the list of given options, the option that best answer this question is He should have multiplied both numbers by 100

Jeff earned his pilot's license and flew to visit his brother 200 miles away. A headwind of 20 mph slowed down the plane's speed
lora16 [44]
<h2>Plane's speed without wind i s 117.68 mph</h2>

Step-by-step explanation:

We have speed of plane without wind is x.

Distance to brothers place = 200 miles.

A headwind of 20 mph slowed down the plane's speed on the first leg of the trip

Speed to brothers place = x - 20

We have

         Distance = Speed x Time

         200=(x-20)\times t_1\\\\t_1=\frac{200}{x-20}

A tailwind of 20 mph sped up the plane on the return trip

Speed of return trip = x + 20

We have

         Distance = Speed x Time

         200=(x+20)\times t_2\\\\t_2=\frac{200}{x+20}

The entire trip took 3.5 hours.

That is

            t_1+t_2=3.5\\\\\frac{200}{x-20}+\frac{200}{x+20}=3.5\\\\200x+4000+2000x-4000=3.5(x-20)(x+20)\\\\400x=3.5x^2-1400\\\\7x^2-800x-2800=0\\\\\texttt{x = 117.68mph or x =-3.40mph}

Plane's speed without wind i s 117.68 mph
