The modern period has seen the spread of democracy and free market capitalism seen commonly in the western countries. Many countries had reforms to adopt their system of beliefs and those who didn't often had a civil war between factions supporting this new system and a more traditional approach to leading states. Politically we've seen the spread of democracy, economically we've seen the spread of free market capitalism, and culturally we've seen a globalism approach with western culture becoming predominant.
