Prob(winning carnival game) = 2/5
Prob(losing carnival game) = 3/5

Prob (Max wins first 3 games, but loses last 2 games)

= Prob(Max wins game 1) * Prob(Max wins game 2) * Prob(Max wins game 3) * Prob(Max loses game 4) * Prob(Max loses game 5)

What value should going to the empty boxes to complete the calculation for finding the product of 0.98×0.73? both numbersare the
jeyben [28]

Answer:

Missing same value is 0.02

Step-by-step explanation:

Instead of multiplying big decimal numbers we put short cut by making 0.98 as a difference of near integer and one decimal.

i.e 0.98 =1-0.02

Since 0.02 is the same for other also other term

0.73 = 0.75-0.02

Now product can be done very easily.

Steps are shown below:

0.98x0.73

= (1-0.02) (0.75-0.02)

= 0.75 -0.02(1+0.75)+0.0004

= 0.7504-(0.035)

= 0.7154

=0.44

200 students attend a school which offers French and History. 10% of those who take History also take French and 4 times as many
SIZIF [17.4K]

Answer: P(hist& french)=16/200=0.08

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the required probability we have to know what is the number of students that take both History and French ( Intersection of 2 circles in Venn diagram)

1. Lets find the number of students that take History or French or both.

We know that 8% from 200 take neither History or French. So number or students who take History or French or both is 200-200*0.08=184

2. Let number of students that takes French (or both Fr+Hist)=x (left circle)

So number of students that takes History (or both Fr+Hist)=4x (right circle)

So number of students that take both French+History= 10% from 4x or

0.1*4x=0.4x (circles' intersection)

3. Now we have the equation as follows:

x+4*x-0.4*x = 184

4.6*x=184

x=40 students takes French (or both French+ History)

4*x= 40*4=160 students takes History (or both French+ History)

10% from 160 =0.1*160=16 students takes both History and French

P(hist& french)=16/200=0.08

CL 6-131. Solve each system using the method of your choice.
shepuryov [24]

System 1: The solution is (x, y) = (-4, 5)

System 2: The solution is (x, y) = (\frac{11}{3}, -3)

Solution:

Given system of equations are:

2x + 3y = 7 ------ eqn 1

-3x - 5y = -13 --------- eqn 2

We can solve by elimination method

Multiply eqn 1 by 3

6x + 9y = 21 ------ eqn 3

Multiply eqn 2 by 2

-6x - 10y = -26 ------- eqn 4

Add eqn 3 and eqn 4

6x + 9y -6x - 10y = 21 - 26

-y = -5

y = 5

Substitute y = 5 in eqn 1

2x + 3(5) = 7

2x + 15 = 7

2x = -8

x = -4

Thus the solution is (x, y) = (-4, 5)

Second system of equation is:

8 - y = 3x ------ eqn 1

2y + 3x = 5 ----- eqn 2

We can solve by susbtitution method

From given,

y = 8 - 3x ----- eqn 3

Substitute eqn 3 in eqn 2

2(8 - 3x) + 3x = 5

16 - 6x + 3x = 5

3x = 16 - 5

3x = 11

x = \frac{11}{3}

Substitute the above value of x in eqn 3

y = 8 - 3x

y = 8 - 3 \times \frac{11}{3}\\\\y = 8 - 11\\\\y = -3

Thus the solution is (x, y) = (\frac{11}{3}, -3)
