A. Pluripotent

Pluripotent cells can give rise to all of the cell types that make up the body; embryonic stem cells are considered pluripotent. Multipotent cells can develop into more than one cell type, but are more limited than pluripotent cells; adult stem cells and cord blood stem cells are considered multipotent.

Answer:

4, 2, 1, 5, 3

Evolution- it is the emergence of the present forms of organisms gradually over  a long period of time from pre-existing ones.

     ↓

Microevolution-one trait changes from generation to generation

      ↓

Natural selection- it is a process where nature selects those organisms that are well adapted to the prevailing environmental conditions to survive and reach reproductive maturity and pass on favorable traits to offspring.

      ↓

Sexual selection- natural selection that arises through preference by one sex for certain characteristics in individuals of the other sex.

       ↓

Intrasexual selection-selection within the same sex, individuals of one sex can be compete directly mates of the opposite sex

An enzyme was isolated from digestive juices taken from the small intestine. an experiment was set up to test the ability of the
Sergio039 [100]
1. Our results showed that test tube B contained end products of protein digestion, meaning that the isolated enzyme has the ability to break down protein. The end products of protein digestion include small polypeptides, dipeptides, and amino acids. In general, test tube B will contain the building blocks of proteins, which are the amino acids.

2. The two test tubes were placed in a hot water bath at 37oC. This is because the enzyme studied is a human enzyme and it works best at the human body temperature, which is approximately 37oC.
Enzymes are biological catalysts, which means that they accelerate chemical reactions. As a result, an enzyme's activity is greatly affected by temperature. Every enzyme, depending on each function and origin, has a specific range of ideal temperature conditions. If the temperature rises above the maximum accepted, then the enzyme denatures and loses its structure.

3. If the enzyme studied was added in a tube containing starch instead of proteins, then nothing would happen. This is because the enzymes are highly specialized and have very specific actions. It has been proved that this enzyme's activity involves the digestion of proteins.
Starch is a polysaccharide produced by plants, this means that starch is a carbohydrate. Given that starch is not a protein, it will not be digested by the enzyme. An enzyme digesting proteins, will not have any effect on carbohydrates.

4. The smaller molecules which are the result of the digestion happening in the digestive system are absorbed by the human body. More specifically, the products of protein digestion are absorbed by the intestine and then transported into the bloodstream. From the blood, they are then absorbed by other tissues.
After they are absorbed, they are used to build muscles or other compounds which can produce energy.

Why was the Euglena green in color? What is the name of the specialized body structure that is located at the base of the tail?
Leni [432]

Euglena is green in color because of the chlorophyll that is contained in the chloroplast of that organism and the body structure that is located at its base is known as flagellum .

Explanation:

Euglena are species that are found in the fresh and salt water. They are abundantly found in inland waters where they manage themselves to bloom in large amount and color the water surface of ditches and ponds green.

This green color which them form are mainly due to the chlorophyll that is contained in the chloroplast of the organism. chlorophyll is known to be the pigment that is responsible for the green color. It is the cause for the green color in this case too.

Euglena contains a specialized body structure which is located at the base of the tail by which it manages to move.

This specialized structure is known as Flagellum.

Cross bridge formation between myosin heads and actin molecules is caused by the elevation of calcium ion concentration in the c
almond37 [142]

Answer:

sarcoplasmic reticulum deteriorates and ATP production is stopped

Explanation:

Rigor mortis is the third stage of death characterized by stiffening of joints and muscles in body. The stiffening occurs because muscles are not able to return to the relaxed state. There are two reasons for rigor mortis, depletion of ATP and increase in calcium concentration in cytosol. Due to these factors the actin-myosin crossbridge is not able to break and the muscles remain in contracted state.

Sarcoplasmic reticulum deteriorates and calcium is released into the cytosol. Sarcolemma ( covering of muscle fiber ) also breaks down releasing extra calcium into the cytosol. Calcium is responsible for formation of actin-myosin cross bridge and when its concentration increases the bridge is formed continuously leading to stiffening of muscles and joints.
