A Broadway musical was attended by a total of 2,838 people, including men, women, and children. The number of women who attended

the event was 5 more than 3 times the number of children, while the number of men was 3 less than 4 times the number of women. Write an equation to model this situation. Then, use the equation to find the number of men, women, and children who attended the musical.

M + w + c = 2838
w = 3c + 5
m = 4w - 3...4(3c + 5) - 3

4(3c + 5) - 3 + 3c + 5 + c = 2838
12c + 20 - 3 + 3c + 5 + c = 2838
16c + 22 = 2838
16c = 2838 - 22
16c = 2816
c = 2816/16
c = 176

w = 3c + 5
w = 3(176) + 5
w = 528 + 5
w = 533

m = 4w - 3
m = 4(533) - 3
m = 2132 - 3
m = 2129

check...
m + w + c = 2838
2129 + 533 + 176 = 2838
2838 = 2838 (correct)

men attending (m) = 2129
women attending (w) = 533
children attending (c) = 176

kodGreya [7K]

Answer:  {30, 39, 33, 15, 15, 18, 20, 33, 19, 41, 45, 18}

Step-by-step explanation:

1. The key indicates you how to read the values of the stem-and-leaf plot. Then, 1|5 means 15.

2. Then, the first digit is written in the colum Stem and the second digit in the column Leaf.

3. Based on this information, you can write the data given in the stem-and-leaf plot, as following:

15, 15, 18, 18, 19 (The first digit is 1 and the second digit are: 5,5,8,8 and 9)

20 (The first digit is 2 and the second digit is 0)

30, 33, 33, 39 (The first digit is 3 and the second digit are: 0,3,3 and 9)

41, 45 (The first digit is 4 and the second digit are: 1 and 5)

3. Then, as you can see, the data set represented by the stem-and-leaf plot is:

{30, 39, 33, 15, 15, 18, 20, 33, 19, 41, 45, 18}

Ethan and Leo start riding their bikes at the opposite ends of a 65-mile bike path. After Ethan has ridden 1.5 hours and Leo has
Ksenya-84 [330]

let Leo's speed = x mile/hr

so Ethan speed = (x + 6) miles per hour

Distance = Speed × Time

so distance traveled by Leo in 2 hours = x × 2 = 2x

and distance traveled by Ethan in 1.5 hours = 1.5( x + 6 ) = 1.5x + 9

since  they meet on the path , After Ethan has ridden 1.5 hours and Leo has ridden 2 hours , so together the have traveled on complete path that is 65 miles.

⇒  distance traveled by leo in 2 hours + distance traveled by Ethan in 1.5 hours = 65

⇒  2x + 1.5x + 9 = 65

⇒ 3.5x = 56

⇒ x = 16

Hence Leo's speed = x miles/hr = 16 miles/hour

and Ethan's speed = (x + 6) miles/hr = 16 +6 = 22 mile/hour
