Answer: $ 14

Step-by-step explanation:

Since, the cost of 1 pair of socks = x

The cost of 6 pair of socks = 6 x

Total amount spend = $ 40

According to the question,

6 x - 14 = 40

6 x = 40 + 14

6 x = 54

x = 9

Thus, the original price of one pair of socks = $ 9

⇒ The original price of 6 pairs of socks = $ 54

Hence, the total change = original price of socks - the price of socks in the sale = 54 - 40 = $ 14

I don't think the question said 6x-14 = 40. It said you pay with $40, and the question said how much change did you get, implying that the answer is not necessarily 0.

the total spent is not $40

Also, the discount is not necessarily uniform. It could be that red socks are 10% off, but blue socks are 15% off, so you don't know the original price is $9, you just know that the total discount accumulated is $14.

If you google the full equation to solve for c, which is c=40-(6x-14), it simplifies to −6(𝑥−9)

Harper went into a movie theater and bought 10 bags of popcorn and 6 drinks,
Gnesinka [82]

Answer:

The price of a drink = $4

The price of a bag of popcorn = $5.5

Step-by-step explanation:

Let p represent popcorn and d represent drink

Harper bought 10 bags of popcorn and 6 drinks and paid $79 ➡ 10p + 6d = $79

Damian bought 3 bags of popcorn and 5 drinks and paid $36.50 ➡ 3p + 5d = $36.50

Now multiply first equation by -3 and second equation by 10

-3 × (10p + 6d) = $79 ➡ -30p - 18d = -$237

10 × (3p + 5d) = $36.50 ➡ 30p + 50d = $365

Now add the new equationd

30p + 50d -30p - 18d = $365 - $237 (-30p will eliminate 30p)

32d = $128 divide both sides of the equation by 32

32 ÷ 32d = 32 ÷ $128 ➡ d = 4

If d = 4 that means a drink costs $4 we can use this information to find the price of a bag of popcorn

3p + 5d = $36.50 (replace d with 4)

3p + 4×5 = $36.50

3p + 20 = $36.50

3p = $36.50 - 20

3p = 16.50 divide both sides by 3

p = $5.5

The combined average weight of an okapi and a llama is 450450450 kilograms. The average weight of 333 llamas is 190190190 kilogr
Kisachek [45]
I'm going to assume that you meant 450kg for the combined weight, 190kg more and 3 Llamas. I'm pretty sure Llamas and Okapis don't weigh 450450450kg (that's 993,073,252 pounds). :)

x= Okapi weight
y= Llama weight

EQUATIONS:
There are 2 equations to be written:

1) 450kg is equal to the weight of one Okapi and one Llama

450kg= x + y

2) The weight of 3 llamas is equal to the weight of one Okapi plus 190kg.

3y=190kg + x

STEP 1:
Solve for one variable in one equation and substitute the answer in the other equation.

450kg= x + y
Subtract y from both sides
450-y =x

STEP 2:
Substitute (450-y) in second equation in place of x to solve for y.

3y=190kg + x
3y=190 + (450-y)
3y=640 -y
add y to both sides

4y=640
divide both sides by 4

y=160kg Llama weight

STEP 3:
Substitute 160kg in either equation to solve for x.

3y=190kg + x
3(160)=190 + x
480=190 + x
Subtract both sides by 190

290= x
x= 290kg Okapi weight

CHECK:
3y=190kg + x
3(160)=190 + 290
480=480

Hope this helps! :)
