A 1cm diameter, 6 cm long core is removed from a carrot. The resulting hole is filled with corn syrup, and a glass tube is inser

ted into the hole to make a watertight seal. The carrot is suspended in a cup of pure water. Beginning with the carrot cells adjoining the hole, and going out to the carrot epidermal cells exposed to the water, describe what will happen to the carrot cells. Also, what will happen to the level of liquid in the glass tube and why?

■Here,The corn syrup is hypertonic to the carrot, so will take water from the adjoining cells, causing those cells to shrink, become hypertonic to their neighboring cells and to take water from them.

■Conversely the water is hypotonic, and will enter the cells in the outer of the carrot.

■Because of this water will pass from the outside of the carrot to the inside, and cause liquid in the tube to rise

Answer:

Carrot cell will swell and liquid level in glass will reduce

Explanation:

Carrot cell will absorb water and swell in due course of time as there is difference in concentration of water outside and inside the cell.

Similarly, the corn syrup remains intact from the epidermal cell of the carrot due to the glass tube. Being hyper-tonic in nature and also due to presence of water tight glass lid, it is unable to extract water from the adjoining cell; corn syrup will take water from the tube thereby further reducing the level of water in the tube

Percent error is a statistical tool used for evaluating precision. It is expressed as:

Percent error = | (experimental value - theoretical value) / theoretical value | x 100%

Experimental value represents the calculated value while the theoretical value represents the known value. A percent error value which is approaching zero means that your experimental value is close to the known value. Which can possibly mean that you have precise measurements. Calculations are as follows:

Percent Error = | (2.54 - 2.70) / 2.70 | x 100 =5.93%

Thus, the answer is b. 5.93%.

The Correlated trait exercise shows that :
Karolina [17]

Answer:The correlated trait exercise shows that when two characters are correlated, the optimal values and selection strengths rise and fall together.

Explanation: Correlation refers to statistical (linear) relationship between two random variables. When traits are correlated, change in one is associated with change in the other.

Correlation coefficient (c.c.) measures strength of association between two variables in the same individual or experiment. It can range from -1 to +1. C.c. can be positive, negative or weak.

1. A positive c.c. means that an increase in one variable is associated with an increase in the other variable.

2. A negative c.c. means that an increase in one variable is associated with a decrease in the other.

3. A c.c. near zero indicates a weak relationship between the variables.

Correlation can be represented by scatter plot as shown in the attached image.

Sometimes a suffix functions independently as a medical term. give two examples of suffixes that are also terms, and explain how
aleksandrvk [35]

The answer would be –genesis and –gram.

Suffixes that have a Greek or Latin roots and that are used to combine with other words or parts of words are not called suffixes, these kind of affixes are called combining forms.

One combing form is –genesis.

As an independent medical term, this means the origin of something in medicine. When a doctor talks about the genesis of a contagion, he or she is speaking of the point of origin of a contagion.

-genesis used as a suffix, can indicate a particular process or pathogen. Example is parthenogenesis.

One combining form is –gram.

As an independent medical term, gram indicated the metric weight of an object as a unit of mass. If nurses talk about how much serving of food, they are talking about it in grams.

-gram signifies something written down. Example is pictogram.
