Answer:

Mole fraction of benzoic acid = 0.855

Explanation:

Vapour pressure of diethyl ether = 400.0 torr

Vapour pressure of the solution = 342 torr

When a non-volatile sotule is added to a volatile solvent, then vapour pressure of solvent decreases and vapour pressure of the solution is directly proportional to mole fraction of the solute.

P_{total}=x \times P^0_{solvent}

P_total = Vapour pressure of the solution = 342 torr

P^0_{solvent}= 400\ torr

x = Mole fraction of the solute

P_{total}=x \times P^0_{solvent}

342 = x \times 400

x = \frac{342}{400} = 0.855

Mole fraction of benzoic acid = 0.855

What is the halflife of a radioisotope if a 20-g sample becomes 10g after 16 hours
ohaa [14]

Answer:

T½ = 16hours

Explanation:

Final mass (N) = 10g

Initial mass (No) = 20g

Time (t) = 16hours

T½ = ?

T½ = In2 / λ

But λ = ?

In(N/No) = -λt

In(10/20) = -(λ * 16)

In(0.5) = -16λ

-0.693 = -16λ

λ = 0.693 / 16

λ = 0.0433

Note : λ is known as the disintegration constant

T½ = In2 / λ

T½ = 0.693 / 0.0433

T½ = 16hours

The half-life of the sample is 16hours

A sample of a solid labeled as NaCl may be impure. a student analyzes the sample and determines that it contains 75 percent chlo
Evgesh-ka [11]

Answer:

D

Explanation:

The sample must contain impurity that is lower in atomic mass to sodium and since potassium has higher atomic mass to sodium, the answer is the sample contains NaCl and LiCl. We are sure already that the sample is not pure which rules out option a and option b contains sodium iodide which cannot contribute to the increase in chlorine

One brand of vinegar has a pH of 4.5. Another brand has a pH of 5.0. The equation for the pH of a substance is pH = –log[H+], wh
grigory [225]
[H+] in first brand:
4.5 = -log([H+])
[H+] = 10^(-4.5)

[H+] in second brand:
5 = -log[H+]
[H+] = 10^(-5)

Difference = 10^(-4.5) - 10^(-5)
= 2.2 x 10⁻⁵

The answer is A.

If you were to perform the reaction KCl (s)→K+ (g)+ Cl−(g), would energy be absorbed or released? Lattice Energies for Some Ioni
lina2011 [118]

Answer:

Energy would be absorbed.

Explanation:

Lattice energy is defined as the energy required to break apart an ionic solid and convert its component atoms into gaseous ions. That is what you're doing in:

KCl (s) → K⁺(g) + Cl⁻(g)

The energy you require to obtain this reaction is 701 kJ/mol. As the value is positive, energy would be absorbed.
