What connection does the author draw between pericles and democracy in athens?
cestrela7 [59]

Answer: Pericles formed an embryo that would be the prototype of modern democracy centuries later.

Explanation:

  • And if Pericles was the first to devise a political platform reminiscent of democracy in Athens, the Greeks were not the first to use this policy system, but they are the first in Europe. Pericles is known in the historical literature for being an excellent speaker, politician and military leader. He is also credited with the credit for implementing democratic values in ancient Greece and Athens. Around 461 BCE, the period of the establishment of Athenian democracy was due to this man. And if the Athenian pattern of democracy is far from the principle of modern equality, there are certain similarities.
  • Namely, Pericles allowed more impoverished citizens of Athens to participate in the political and judicial life of that city. Thus, the connection between the hereditary relationships based on which the previously mentioned functions was broken is broken. The assembly, in which all the free Athenians were now able to attend, decided on all critical issues. What is sure about the lack of Pericles democracy implemented in Athens is the fact that women and slaves could not participate in these political and judicial processes.

Explain how the civil rights and civil liberties afforded Americans have evolved since the founding of the United States. Assess
Cerrena [4.2K]

Answer:

Ever since from its inception, the constitution of the United States has intended to protect a wide set of civil rights and civil liberties. The Bill of Rights was ratified in 1791, only four years after the US Constitution became effective. Among the civil rights protected are: freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, right to a fair trial and freedom of religion.

Civil rights have expanded throught american history, and it can be argued that they are far more protected in the 21th century, than they were in the 19th or early 20th century. Perhaps, the greatest expansion came from the civil rights movement of the 1960s, which sought to broaden the rights of African Americans and other minorities.

African Americans did not enjoy the same rights as white americans for most of american history, even if this difference violated the Constitution. The end of segregation, and the fight against many forms of discrimination that resulted from the civil rights movement have helped immensely to protect this minority group.

However, some civil rights have been infriged in recent decades. For example, the right to privacy by the NSA.

In conclusion, there is a clear advancement in the protection of civil rights, but there are still plenty of obstacles and setbacks. It is a citizen duty to be vigilant of possible restrictions on liberty.
