Using energy considerations and assuming negligible air resistance, show that a rock thrown from a bridge 20.0 m above water wit

h an initial speed of 15.0 m/s strikes the water with a speed of 24.8 m/s independent of the direction thrown. (Hint: show that $$K_i + U_i = K_f + U_f)$$

Answer:

Explanation:

Given that,

Height of the bridge is 20m

Initial before he throws the rock

The height is hi = 20 m

Then, final height hitting the water

hf = 0 m

Initial speed the rock is throw

Vi = 15m/s

The final speed at which the rock hits the water

Vf = 24.8 m/s

Using conservation of energy given by the question hint

Ki + Ui = Kf + Uf

Where

Ki is initial kinetic energy

Ui is initial potential energy

Kf is final kinetic energy

Uf is final potential energy

Then,

Ki + Ui = Kf + Uf

Where

Ei = Ki + Ui

Where Ei is initial energy

Ei = ½mVi² + m•g•hi

Ei = ½m × 15² + m × 9.8 × 20

Ei = 112.5m + 196m

Ei = 308.5m J

Now,

Ef = Kf + Uf

Ef = ½mVf² + m•g•hf

Ef = ½m × 24.8² + m × 9.8 × 0

Ef = 307.52m + 0

Ef = 307.52m J

Since Ef ≈ Ei, then the rock thrown from the tip of a bridge is independent of the direction of throw

You skip north for 12 minutes to your best friend's house that is 1.5 kilometers away. What is your average velocity?
bagirrra123 [75]

Answer:

The average velocity is 7.5 km/h

Explanation:

Let's convert minutes to hours so our answer can be given in a common units of km/hour:

12 minutes = 12/60  hours = 0.2 hours

Now we estimate the average velocity calculating the distance travelled over the time it took:

1.5 / 0.2 km/h = 7.5 km/h

Suppose you are driving a car and your friend, who is with you in the car, tosses a softball up and down from her point of view.
Sholpan [36]

Answer:

No, i disagree.

Explanation:

If the car is moving, it only has a velocity with a component in the horizontal direction. If we use galilean relativity, the velocity of the ball observed by my friend standing in the ground should only be affected in the horizonal direction, while the vertical stays the same for both observers.

Dao makes a table to identify the variables used in the equations for centripetal acceleration. A 2 column 5 rows. The first col
Zanzabum

Answer:

Column X. Tangential Speed

Column Y. radius

Explanation:

The equation for centripetal acceleration is

           a_{c} = v² / r

Where v is the tangential velocity of the body and the radius of curvature.

To analyze this equation you must place the tangential velocity in one column and in the other the turning radius

Let's check the answers

Column X. Tangential Speed

Column Y. radius

This is the correct answer.

Calculate the number of moles in each of the following masses: 0.039 g of palladium 0.0073 kg of tantalum
marysya [2.9K]

Answer:

The number of moles of palladium and tantalum are 0.00037 mole and 0.0000404 mole respectively

Explanation:

Number of mole = reacting mass/molar mass

n = R.m/m.m......................... Equation 1

Where n = number of moles, R.m = reacting mass, m.m = molar mass.

For palladium,

R.m = 0.039 g and m.m = 106.42 g/mol

Substituting theses values into equation 1

n = 0.039/106.42

n = 0.00037 mole

For tantalum,

R.m = 0.0073 and m.m = 180.9 g/mol

Substituting these values into equation 1

n = 0.0073/180.9

n = 0.0000404 mole

Therefore the number of moles of palladium and tantalum are 0.00037 mole and 0.0000404 mole respectively
