Peter Johnson, the CFO of Homer Industries, Inc is trying to determine the Weighted Cost of Capital (WACC) based on two differen

t capital structures under consideration to fund a new project. Assume the company’s tax rate is 30%.
Component Scenario 1 Scenario 2 Cost of Capital Tax Rate
Debt $5,000,000.00 $2,000,000.00 8% 30%
Preferred Stock 1,200,000.00 2,200,000.00 10%
Common Stock 1,800,000.00 3,800,000.00 13%

Answer:

Scenario 1 has WACC of 7.93%

Scenario 2 has WACC of 10.33%

Step-by-step explanation:

WACC=Ke*E/V+Kp*P/V+Kd(after tax)*D/V

Ke is the cost of equity =13%

Kp is the cost of preferred stock=10%

Kd(after tax) is the cost of debt of 8% adjusted for tax as below:

Kd(after tax )=Kd(before tax)*(1-t)

t is the tax rate of 30% or 0.3

Kd(after tax)=8%*(1-0.3)=5.60%

E is equity value,which is $1.8 million under scenario 1 and $3.8 under scenario 2

P is the value of preferred stock which is $1.2 million and $2.2 million respectively

D is the value of debt which is $5 million and $2 million

V=total value of capital structure=$8 million in both cases.

Scenario 1 WACC

WACC=13%*1.8/8+10%*1.2/8+5.6%*5/8=7.93%

Scenario 2 WACC

WACC=13%*3.8/8+10%*2.2/8+5.6%*2/8=10.33%

Miss Croft made snack bags for the picnic that contain three types of snacks: packages of crackers, packages of cookies, and can
jek_recluse [69]

Answer: $1.25

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the cost of cracker be a.

Let the cost of cookies be b.

Let the cost of candy bars be c.

From the question,

6a + 6b + 6c = $21

8a + 5b + 10c = $26

5a + 4b + 7c = $18.50

To solve this, we first pick any two pairs of equation. This will be:

6a + 6b + 6c = $21 ....... i

8a + 5b + 10c = $26 ....... ii

Multiply equation i by 8

Multiply equation ii by 6

48a + 48b + 48c = $168 ....... iii

48a + 30b + 60c = $156 ....... iv

Subtract equation iv from iii

18b - 12c = 12

We then pick another two pairs

8a + 5b + 10c = $26

5a + 4b + 7c = $18.50

Multiply equation i by 5

Multiply equation ii by 8

40a + 25b + 50c = $130

40a + 32b + 56c = $148

Subtract the equations

-7b - 6c = -18

Then, solve the new equations formed

18b - 12c = 12 ....... v

-7b - 6c = -18 ....... vi

Multiply equation i by -7

Multiply equation ii by 18

-126b + 84c = -84

-126b - 108c = -324

Subtract the equations

192c = 240

c = 240/129

c = $1.25

From equation v, put the value of c

18b - 12c = 12

18b - 12($1.25) = 12

18b - $15 = $12

18b = $27

b = $27/18

b = $1.5

Since,

6a + 6b + 6c = $21

6a + 6($1.5) + 6($1.25) = $21

6a + $9 + $7.5 = $21

6a + $16.5 = $21

6a = $21 - $16.5

6a = $4.5

a = $4.5/6

a = $0.75

One candy bar cost $1.25

Dawson's annual premium will be $2,462.40. This can be found by going across from "Male 40-44" over to "20-year coverage" which is $13.68. Since $13.68 is per $1000 of coverage, you would multiply it by 180 to get $2,462.40.

Rachel's checks I believe would have a deduction of $63.14.
