You hang different masses M from the lower end of a vertical spring and measure the period T for each value of M. You use Excel

to plot T2 (in s2) on the y-axis versus M (in kg) on the x-axis. The equation for the straight line that gives the best fit to your data is
y = 0.0569x + 0.00100.
A) What is the force constant k of the spring?
B) What is the mass of the spring?

Answer:

a)693.821N/m

b)17.5g

Explanation:

We the Period T we can find the constant k,

That is

T = 2 \pi \sqrt{\frac{m}{k}}

squaring on both sides,

T^2=\frac{4\pi^2}{k}M +\frac{4\pi^2}{k}m_{spring}

where,

M=hanging mass, m = spring mass,

k =spring constant

T =time period

a) So for the equation we can compare, that is,

y=T^2=0.0569x+0.0010

the hanging mass M is x here, so comparing the equation we know that

\frac{4\pi^2}{k}=0.0569\\k= \frac{4\pi^2}{0.0569}\\k=693.821N/m

b) In order to find the mass of the spring we make similar process, so comparing,

\frac{4\pi^2}{k}m =0.001\\m=\frac{0.004k}{4\pi^2} =\frac{0.001*693.821}{4\pi^2}\\m=0.0175kg\\m=17.5g

A wood pipe having an inner diameter of 3 ft. is bound together using steel hoops having a cross sectional area of 0.2 in.2 The
WINSTONCH [101]

Answer:

31.67 in

Explanation:

Given:

Diameter of the pipe, D = 3ft = 36 in

cross-sectional area of the steel = 0.2 in²

Note: Refer to the figure attached

From the free body diagram represented in the figure, we have

ΣFx = 0

or

pressure × projected area = 2 × Force in steel

Now, the projected area = spacing (s) × diameter of the wood pipe

force in steel = stress in steel (σ) × cross-sectional area of the steel

on substituting the values we get

4 ksi × (s × 36 in) = 2 × σ × 0.2 in²

also, allowable hoop stress = 11.4 ksi

thus,

σ = 11.4 ksi = 11.4 × 10³ psi

therefore, we have

4 psi × (s × 36 in) = 2 × 11.4 × 10³ psi × 0.2 in²

thus,

s = 31.67 in

hence the maximum spacing is 31.67 in

During fabrication processes, polymeric materials are generally subjected to which of the following conditions? The ambient temp
geniusboy [140]

Answer:

- Elevated temperatures.

- Elevated pressures.

Explanation:

In the manufacture of plastic products are used:

Raw material (pellets) which are the monomers that promote the chemical reaction.

To these are added the charges, in order to reduce the cost of the final product and improve some properties. These charges can be fiberglass, paper, metal structures.

Additives are also added whose mission is to improve or achieve certain properties, such as reducing friction, reducing chemical degradation, increasing electrical conductivity, coloring the product, and all this happens in the presence of a catalyst that is responsible for initiating and accelerating the chemical reaction process.

There are different methods of production of plastics, one of the most frequent is by injection.

Injection is a process that is carried out on machines similar to extrusion machines, in which the spindle, in addition to rotating, has an axial displacement.

In the injection, once the mold is filled, it is separated from the nozzle of the machine, breaking the feed channel. After a certain time, the piece already cooled is demoulded.

High pressures and temperatures are necessary, but parts of good finish and at high production speeds are obtained

An object of mass 100 kg is initially at rest on a horizontal frictionless surface. At time t = 0, a horizontal force of 10 N is
satela [25.4K]

Answer:

(D) It is moving at a constant speed

Explanation:

Before t = 1s. Due to the force, albeit small, acting on the object, since there's no static friction stopping the object from moving, this mass object would have a constant acceleration and it's velocity would be increasing.

According to Newton's 1st law, an object will stay at a constant speed if the net force acting on it is 0. After t = 1s, horizontally speaking there's no other force exerting on the mass object. There is no friction force at play here as the surface is frictionless.

Therefore the correct statement is (D) It is moving at a constant speed

The tip of a tuning fork goes through 440 complete vibrations in a time of 0.510s. Find the angular frequency and the period of
Brilliant_brown [7]
Solve for the time it will take to complete a revolution. That is,
                                   0.510 s / 440 revolutions = 51/44000 s
The frequency in Hertz is the reciprocal of this value thus the frequency is approximately equal to 862.75 Hz.

Angular velocity expressed in radians/second
                          (440 rev / 0.510 s) x (2π rad / 1 rev) = 5420.787 rad/s

The period is the reciprocal of frequency which is approximately equal to 1.16x10^-3 s.
