Ruth sets out to visit her friend Ward, who lives 50 mi north and 100 mi east of her. She starts by driving east, but after 60 m

i she comes to a detour that takes her 15 mi south before going east again. She then drives east for 8 mi and runs out of gas, so Ward flies there in his small plane to get her.
Part A
What is Ward's displacement vector? Give your answer in component form, using a coordinate system in which the y-axis points north.
Express your answers using two significant figures separated by a comma.
rx,ry = mi
Part B
What is the magnitude of Ward's displacement vector?
Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units.
Part C
What is the direction of Ward's displacement vector, measured clockwise from the negative y axis?
Express your answer using two significant figures.

Answer:

A) x = (-32, - 65)

B) 72 miles

C) 26°

Explanation:

A) If we consider Ruth's home as origin, then at wards home, position vector is;

x1 = 100i + 50j

This is because the question said 100miles east of her which is on the positive x-axis and 50 miles north which is on the positive y-axis.

At Ruth's home, position vector will be;

x2 = 68i - 15j

Because she is moving closer to the positive x-axis in 60 miles after which she also flied east in 8 miles. Also, she went south in 15 miles which is down the negative y-axis.

Thus, displacement vector is;

x = x2 - x1 = 68i - 15j - (100i + 50j)

x = 68i - 15j - 100i - 50j

x = -32i - 65j

In component form, we have;

x = (-32, - 65)

B) Magnitude of wards displacement vector;

|x| = √((-32)² + (-65²))

|x| = √(1024 + 4225)

|x| = √5249

|x| ≈ 72 miles

C) direction of Ward's displacement vector, measured clockwise from the negative y axis is;

θ = tan^(-1) (-32/-65)

θ = tan^(-1) 0.4923

θ = 26°

A certain humidifier operates by raising water to the boiling point and then evaporating it. Every minute 30 g of water at 20◦ C
Sveta_85 [38]

Answer:

The value of total energy needed per minute for the humidifier = 77.78 KJ

Explanation:

Total energy per minute the humidifier required = Energy required to heat water to boiling point) + Energy required to convert liquid water into vapor at the boiling point) ----- (1)

Specific heat of water = 4190 \frac{J}{kg k}

The heat of vaporization is =  2256 \frac{KJ}{kg}

Mass = 0.030 kg

Energy needed to heat water to boiling point =  m c ( T_{2} - T_{1} )

Energy needed to heat water to boiling point = 0.030 × 4.19 × (100 - 20)

Energy (E_{1}) = 10.08 KJ

Energy needed to convert liquid water into vapor at the boiling point

E_{2} = 0.030 × 2256 = 67.68 KJ

Thus the total energy needed E =  E_{1} + E_{2}

E = 10.08 + 67.68

E = 77.78 KJ

This is the value of total energy needed per minute for the humidifier.

Some gliders are launched from the ground by means of a winch, which rapidly reels in a towing cable attached to the glider. Wha
aliina [53]

Answer:

P=627.47W

Explanation:

To solve this problem we have to take into account, that the work done by the winch is

W=Fh

the force, at least must equal the gravitational force

F=Mg=(156kg)(9.8\frac{m}{s^2})=1258.8N

with force the tension in the cable makes the winch go up.

The work done is

W=(1258.8N)(58.0m)=73010.4J

To calculate the power we need to know what is the time t. But first we have to compute the acceleration

The acceleration will be

v_f^2=v_0+2ah\\a=\frac{v_f^2}{2h}=\frac{(24.9\frac{m}{s})}{2(58.0m)}=0.214\frac{m}{s^2}

and the time t

v_f=v_0+at\\t=\frac{v_f}{a}=116.35s

The power will be

P=\frac{W}{t}=\frac{73010.4J}{116.35s}=627.47W

HOPE THIS HELPS!!

A 0.40-kg cart with charge 4.0 x 10-5 C starts at rest on a horizontal frictionless surface 0.50 m from a fixed object with char
maw [93]

Answer:

26.82m/s

Explanation:

Given

Mass = m= 0.4kg

Initial Velocity = u = 0

Charge = 4.0E-5C

Distance= d = 0.5m

Object Charge = 2E-4C

First, we'll calculate the initial energy (E)

E = Potential Energy

PE = kQq / d

Where k = coulomb constant = 8.99E9Nm²/C²

Energy is then calculated by;

PE = 8.99E9 * 4E-5 * 2E-4 / 0.5

PE = 143.84J

Energy = Potential Energy = Kinetic Energy

K.E = ½mv² = 143.84J

½mv² = ½ * 0.40 * v² = 143.85

0.2v² = 143.85

v² = 143.85/0.2

v² = 719.25

v = √719.25

v = 26.81883666380777

v = 26.82m/s

Hence, the object is 26.82m/s fast when the cart moving is very far (infinity) from the fixed charge

. During some actual expansion and compression processes in piston–cylinder devices, the gases have been observed to satisfy the
777dan777 [17]

Answer:

-4728.49 J

Explanation:

It is an Adiabatic process. For an adiabatic process, work done can be calculated as follows:

W= \fracC{V_1^{1-n}-V_2^{1-n}}{n-1}

PV^n = C\\ (350 kPa)(0.03m^3)^{1.5}=1818.65

Substitute the values:

W=(1818.65)\frac{(0.03^{(1-1.5)}-0.02^{(1-1.5)})}{(1.5-1)} = (1818.65)\frac{(5.77-7.07)}{0.5}=-4728.49
