Steps I took:

I drew out a circle with a radius of 1 and drew a trapezoid inscribed in the top portion of it. I outlined the rectangle within the trapezoid and the two right triangles within it. This allowed me to come to the conclusion, using the pythagorean theorem, that the height of the trapezoid is <span><span>h=<span><span>1−<span><span>x2</span>4</span></span><span>−−−−−</span>√</span></span><span>h=<span>1−<span><span>x2</span>4</span></span></span></span>

The formula for the area of a trapezoid is <span><span>A=<span><span>a+b</span>2</span>(h)</span><span>A=<span><span>a+b</span>2</span>(h)</span></span> I am basically solving for the <span>aa</span> here and so far I have:

<span><span>A=<span><span>x+2</span>2</span>(<span><span>1−<span><span>x2</span>4</span></span><span>−−−−−</span>√</span>)</span><span>A=<span><span>x+2</span>2</span>(<span>1−<span><span>x2</span>4</span></span>)</span></span>

I simplified this in order to be able to easily take the derivative of it as such:

<span><span>A=<span><span>x+2</span>2</span>(<span><span><span>4−<span>x2</span></span>4</span><span>−−−−−−</span>√</span>)</span><span>A=<span><span>x+2</span>2</span>(<span><span>4−<span>x2</span></span>4</span>)</span></span>

<span><span>A=<span><span>x+2</span>2</span>(<span><span><span>4−<span>x2</span></span><span>−−−−−</span>√</span>2</span>)</span><span>A=<span><span>x+2</span>2</span>(<span><span>4−<span>x2</span></span>2</span>)</span></span>

<span><span>A=(<span>14</span>)(x+2)(<span><span>4−<span>x2</span></span><span>−−−−−</span>√</span>)</span><span>A=(<span>14</span>)(x+2)(<span>4−<span>x2</span></span>)</span></span>

Then I took the derivative:

<span><span><span>A′</span>=<span>14</span>[(1)(<span><span>4−<span>x2</span></span><span>−−−−−</span>√</span>)+(x+2)((<span>12</span>)(4−<span>x2</span><span>)<span>−1/2</span></span>(−2x)]</span><span><span>A′</span>=<span>14</span>[(1)(<span>4−<span>x2</span></span>)+(x+2)((<span>12</span>)(4−<span>x2</span><span>)<span>−1/2</span></span>(−2x)]</span></span>

This all simplified to:

<span><span><span>A′</span>=<span>14</span>[<span><span>4−<span>x2</span></span><span>−−−−−</span>√</span>−<span><span>2<span>x2</span>−4x</span><span><span>4−<span>x2</span></span><span>−−−−−</span>√</span></span>]</span><span><span>A′</span>=<span>14</span>[<span>4−<span>x2</span></span>−<span><span>2<span>x2</span>−4x</span><span>4−<span>x2</span></span></span>]</span></span>

Next, I set the derivative equal to zero in order to find the maximum point (I know that I can prove that it is actually a max point by taking the second derivative later)

<span><span><span>14</span>[<span><span>4−<span>x2</span></span><span>−−−−−</span>√</span>−<span><span>2<span>x2</span>−4x</span><span><span>4−<span>x2</span></span><span>−−−−−</span>√</span></span>]=0</span><span><span>14</span>[<span>4−<span>x2</span></span>−<span><span>2<span>x2</span>−4x</span><span>4−<span>x2</span></span></span>]=0</span></span><span><span><span><span>4−<span>x2</span></span><span>−−−−−</span>√</span>−<span><span>2<span>x2</span>−4x</span><span><span>4−<span>x2</span></span><span>−−−−−</span>√</span></span>=0</span><span><span>4−<span>x2</span></span>−<span><span>2<span>x2</span>−4x</span><span>4−<span>x2</span></span></span>=0</span></span><span><span><span><span>4−<span>x2</span>−2<span>x2</span>−4x</span><span><span>4−<span>x2</span></span><span>−−−−−</span>√</span></span>=0</span><span><span><span>4−<span>x2</span>−2<span>x2</span>−4x</span><span>4−<span>x2</span></span></span>=0</span></span><span><span>4−<span>x2</span>−2<span>x2</span>−4x=0</span><span>4−<span>x2</span>−2<span>x2</span>−4x=0</span></span><span><span>−3<span>x2</span>−4x+4=0</span><span>−3<span>x2</span>−4x+4=0</span></span>

so I got:

<span><span>x=−2orx=<span>23</span></span><span>x=−2orx=<span>23</span></span></span>

<span><span>x=−2</span><span>x=−2</span></span> wouldn't make sense so I chose <span><span>x=<span>23</span></span><span>x=<span>23</span></span></span> and plugged it back into my original formula for the area of this trapezoid but my answer doesn't seem to match any of the multiple choice solutions. Where did I go wrong?

As you know,if 3 of them have the same base,then The 3rd trapezoid will have the greatest area,because the angle's measurement is greater with height.

A recipe for casserole calls for 2 cups of rice. The recipe makes 6 servings of casserole. how many cups of rice will you need t
ss7ja [257]

You will need 3.333.... cups of rice to make 10 servings of casserole.

<u><em>Explanation</em></u>

The recipe which makes 6 servings of casserole, needs 2 cups of rice.

Suppose, you need x cups of rice for making 10 servings of casserole.

Now, the equation according to <u>the ratio of "cups of rice" to the "servings of casserole" </u>will be.....

\frac{x}{10}=\frac{2}{6}\\ \\ 6x= 2*10=20\\ \\ x=\frac{20}{6}=3.333.....

So, you will need 3.333.... cups of rice to make 10 servings of casserole.

Under what circumstances will the chi-square test for goodness of fit produce a large value for chi-square? Question options: a.
Whitepunk [10]

Answer:

a.when the sample proportions are much different than the hypothesized population proportions

Step-by-step explanation:

A chi-square test for goodness of fit is used to check the sample data were distributed according to claim or not.

If the chi-square test produces a large value of chi-square statistic then there is not a good fit between sample data and the null hypothesis. So, the sample proportions are much different than the hypothesized population proportions. Hence,Option (a) is correct.

If the goodness of fit produces a large value for chi-square then the sample means must not be close to the population mean. So, option (b) is incorrect.
