What is the sequence of energy transformations that occur in a nuclear reactor? nuclear energy Right arrow. Mechanical energy Ri
Mademuasel [1]

Answer:

NUCLEAR ENERGY -----> MECHANICAL ENERGY -------> THERMAL ENERGY --------> ELECTRICAL ENERGY

Explanation:

In nuclear reactor, various energy transformations occur in order to generate electricity. Nuclear reactor converts the energy released from nuclear fission and the heat generated is removed from the reactor by a cooling system where steam is generated. The steam then drives a turbine which powers a generator to produce electricity.

A nuclear reactor is hence an equipment where nuclear chain reactions occur and control can be obtained. The nuclear reactor uses mostly uranium-235 and Plutonium-239. When these radioactive substances absorbs neutrons, they undergo nuclear fission causing the nucleus to split into two or more smaller compounds with  the release of kinetic energy a form of mechanical energy, gamma radiations and others.The kinetic energy is then harnessed in the equipment as heat (thermal energy) which is received by a cooling system and steam is generated. The steam can then power the generator from which electricity is obtained (electrical energy).

So therefore, in a nuclear reactor, the nuclear energy is transformed to mechanical energy and then thermal energy which powers the generation of the electrical energy.

Determine ΔH for the reaction CaCO3 → CaO + CO2 given these data: 2 Ca + 2 C + 3 O2 → 2 CaCO3 ΔH = −2,414 kJ C + O2 → CO2 ΔH = −
kicyunya [14]

Answer:

The ΔH for the reaction is -456.5 KJ

Explanation:

Here we want to determine ΔH for the reaction;

Mathematically;

ΔH = ΔH(product) - ΔH(reactant)

In the case of the first reaction;

ΔH = ΔH(CaO) + ΔH(CO2) - ΔH(CaCO3)  ...........................(*)

From the other reactions, we can get the respective ΔH for the individual molecule in the reaction

In second reaction;

Kindly note that for elements, molecule of gases, ΔH = 0

What this means is that throughout the solution;

ΔH(Ca)  = 0 KJ

ΔH(O2) = 0 KJ

ΔH(C) = 0 KJ

Thus, in writing the equation for the subsequent chemical reactions, we shall need to write and equate the overall ΔH for the reaction to that of the product alone

So in the second reaction

ΔH = 2ΔH(CaCO3)

Thus;

-2414/2 = ΔH(CaCO3)

ΔH(CaCO3) = -1,207  KJ

Moving to the third reaction, we have;

ΔH = ΔH(CO2)

Hence ΔH(CO2) = -393.5 KJ

For the last reaction;

ΔH = ΔH(CaO)

Hence ΔH(CaO) = -1270 KJ

Going back to equation *

ΔH = ΔH(CaO) + ΔH(CO2) - ΔH(CaCO3)

Using the values of the ΔH  of the respective molecules given above,

ΔH  = -1270 + (-393.5) - (-1207)

ΔH  = -456.5 KJ

A sample of thallium(III) peroxide, Tl2(O2)3, contains 2.45 mol of thallium(III) ions. The number of moles of peroxide ions in t
Naddika [18.5K]

Answer:

The correct answer is 3.675 moles.

Explanation:

Based on the question, the reaction taking place is,

Tl₂(O₂)₃ ⇒ 2Tl⁺³ + 3O₂⁻²

Thus, 1 mole of thallium peroxide comprise 2 moles of thallium and 3 moles of peroxide ions.

However, based on the given question, a sample of thallium peroxide comprise 2.45 moles of thallium ions. The moles of peroxide ions present in the sample will be,

= 2.45 × 3 / 2

= 3.675 moles.

Hence, the moles of peroxide ions present in the given sample is 3.675.

5. How many mm are equal to 4.75 x 10-2 m?
liq [111]

Answer:

47.5 mm are equal to 4.75 × 10⁻² m.

Explanation:

Meter and millimeter both are units of length. Millimeter is smaller unit while meter is larger unit. The one meter consist of thousand millimeter or we can say that one thousand millimeters are equal to one meter. In order to convert the meter value into millimeter we have to multiply the values with thousand.

we know that one meter is equal to 1000 millimeter.

1 m = 1000 mm

4.75 × 10⁻² × 1000 = 47.5 mm

47.5 mm are equal to 4.75 × 10⁻² m.
