Answer:

Observations

  1. The Polonium nucleus disintegrates to form a stable Lead nucleus with the emission of an alpha particle.
  2. The mass number of the original Polonium nucleus decreases by 4 ( ie from 210 to 206)
  3. The atomic number of the original Polonium nucleus decreases by 2 (ie from 84 to 82)

Explanation:

Polonium (Po) is a radioactive silver-grey material that exists in very low concentrations as a solid in the environment.

As a radioactive substance, it is unstable and then it undergoes radioactive alpha decay to form a stable chemical element - Lead (Pb)

Polonium Nucleus before decay

Polonium (²¹⁰₈₄Po) has a mass number of 210 and an atomic number of 84. The atomic number tells us that Polonium has 84 protons in its nucleus before it undergoes decay.

The mass number tell us that Polomium has 126 neutrons in addition to the 84 protons in its nucleus

The total number of protons and neutrons in a nucleus make up its Mass Number

Polonium Nucleus  after decay

Polonium undergoes radioactive decay by emitting an alpha particle, which is also known as a Helium particle (⁴₂He)

                            ²¹⁰ ₈₄Po ⇒ ²⁰⁶ ₈₂Pb + ⁴₂He

Observations

  1. The Polonium nucleus disintegrates to form a stable Lead nucleus with the emission of an alpha particle
  2. The mass number of the original Polonium nucleus reduces by 4 ( ie from 210 to 206)
  3. The atomic number of the original Polonium nucleus decreases by 2 (ie from 84 to 82)
  4. A new stable element (Lead) is formed.
  5. An alpha particle (⁴₂He) is released.

Liquid X is known to have a higher surface tension and higher viscosity than Liquid Y Use these facts to predict the result of b
creativ13 [48]

Answer:

O FX will be greater than FY

Explanation:

Surface tension can be defined as the force required to stretch one film of a given fase (usually with liquids).

This required force is proportional to the liquid's surface tension. This means that the higher the surface tension, the higher the required force to stretch it is.

Formulating an Investigative Question In this experiment, you will use a track and a toy car to explore the concept of movement.
Solnce55 [7]

Answer:

A scientific question to be asked is; What is the average speed of the toy car?

Explanation:

A scientific question is a question which is well defined, the values in the question can be measured, and the inputs and outputs related to the question are controllable

The parameters measured in the experiment are;

The time elapsed during the movement of the car, Δt

The distance the car moves, d

From the obtained measurements, the value can be calculated is the average speed of the toy car as follows;

The \ average \ speed \ of \ the \ toy \ car, \ v_{avg} = \dfrac{d}{\Delta t}

Therefore, a scientific question to be asked that will be answered by doing the experiment is; What is the average speed of the toy car?
