Rachel has an unknown sample of a radioisotope listed in the table. Using a special technique, she is able to measure the mass o

f just the unknown isotope as 104.8 kg at 12:02:00 P.M. At 4:11:00 P.M. on the same day, the mass of the unknown radioisotope is 13.1 kg. Which radioisotope is in the sample?

Answer:

Barium-139

Explanation:

initial mass of the sample at 12:02:00 PM is given as

m_1 = 104.8 kg

Mass of the sample at 4:11:00 PM is given as

m_2 = 13.1 kg

so here since it is a sample of radioactive isotope so here we will say

m_2 = m_1 e^{-\lambda t}

now from above data we know that the time taken to reduce the mass is

t = 4 hours 9 minutes

t = 4.15 hours

now from above equation we will have

13.1 = 104.8 e^{-\lambda(4.15)}

\lambda(4.15) = 2.08

\lambda = 0.50 per hour

so here half life is given as

T_{1/2} = \frac{ln2}{\lambda}

T_{1/2} = 1.4 hours

So here this isotope must be the one which will have half life of 1.4 hours

So it is nearly Barium-139

Suppose Earth's mass increased but Earth's diame-
navik [9.2K]

Answer: It would increase.

Explanation:

The equation for determining the force of the gravitational pull between any two objects is:

F = G \frac{m1m2}{r^2}

Where G is the universal gravitational constant, m1 is the mass of one body, m2 is the mass of the other body, and r^2 is the distance between the two objects' centers squared.

Assuming the Earth's mass but not its diameter increased, in the equation above m1 (the term usually indicative of the object of larger mass) would increase, while the r^2 would not.

Thus, it goes without saying that, with some simple reasoning about fractions, an increasing numerator over a constant denominator would result in a larger number to multiply by G, thus also meaning a larger gravitational strength between Earth and whatever other object is of interest.

The human ear canal is, on average, 2.5cm long and aids in hearing by acting like a resonant cavity that is closed on one end an
Troyanec [42]

Answer:

3400 Hz

Explanation:

We know that

1 cm = 0.01 m

L = Length of the human ear canal = 2.5 cm = 0.025 m

V = Speed of sound = 340 ms⁻¹

f = First resonant frequency

The human ear canal behaves as a closed pipe and for a closed pipe, nth resonant frequency is given as

f = \frac{(2n - 1)V}{4L}

for first resonant frequency, we have n = 1

Inserting the values

f = \frac{(2(1) - 1) 340}{4(0.025)}

f = \frac{340}{4(0.025)}

f = 3400 Hz

Sati [7]

Answer:

  h = v₀² / 2g ,      h = k/4g     x²

Explanation:

In this exercise we can use the law of conservation of energy at two points, the lowest, before the shot and the highest point that the mouse reaches

Starting point. Lower compressed spring

              Em₀ = K = ½ m v²

Final point. Highest on the path

             Em_{f} = U = mg h

As or no friction the energy is conserved

              Em₀ =  Em_{f}

              ½ m v₀²² = m g h

             h = v₀² / 2g

We can also use as initial energy the energy stored in the spring that will later be transferred to the mouse

                  ½ k x² = 2 g h

                  h = k/4g     x²
