The index of refraction for silicate flint glass is 1.66 for violet light that has a wavelength in air equal to 400 nm and 1.61

for red light that has a wavelength in air equal to 700nm. A ray of 700-nm wavelength red light and a ray of 400-nm wavelength violet light both have angles of refraction equal to 30 degrees upon entering the glass from the air.
(a) Which is greater, the angle of incidence of the ray of red light or the angle of incidence of the ray of violet light? Explain your answer.

(b) What is the difference betweeen the angles of incidence of the two rays?

Answer:

(a) Angle of incidence for violet is more than the angle of incidence for red

(b) 2.4°

Explanation:

refractive index for violet , v = 1.66

refractive index for red, nR = 1.61

wavelength for violet, λv = 400 nm

wavelength for red, λR = 700 nm

Angle of refraction, r = 30°

(a) Let iv be the angle of incidence for violet.

Use Snell,s law

nv = Sin iv / Sin r

1.66 = Sin iv / Sin 30

Sin iv = 0.83

iv = 56°

Use Snell's law for red

nR  = Sin iR / Sin r

where, iR be the angle of incidence for red

1.61 = Sin iR / Sin 30

Sin iR = 0.805

iR = 53.6°

So, the angle of incidence for violet is more than red.

(b) iv - iR = 56° - 53.6° = 2.4°

FrozenT [24]

Answer:

I = 2 kgm^2

Explanation:

In order to calculate the moment of inertia of the door, about the hinges, you use the following formula:

\tau=I\alpha     (1)

I: moment of inertia of the door

α: angular acceleration of the door = 2.00 rad/s^2

τ: torque exerted on the door

You can calculate the torque by using the information about the Force exerted on the door, and the distance to the hinges. You use the following formula:

\tau=Fd        (2)

F: force = 5.00 N

d: distance to the hinges = 0.800 m

You replace the equation (2) into the equation (1), and you solve for α:

Fd=I\alpha\\\\I=\frac{Fd}{\alpha}

Finally, you replace the values of all parameters in the previous equation for I:

I=\frac{(5.00N)(0.800m)}{2.00rad/s^2}=2kgm^2

The moment of inertia of the door around the hinges is 2 kgm^2

Merry-go-rounds are a common ride in park playgrounds. The ride is a horizontal disk that rotates about a vertical axis at their
Vera_Pavlovna [14]

Answer:

A = 2.36m/s

B = 3.71m/s²

C = 29.61m/s2

Explanation:

First, we convert the diameter of the ride from ft to m

10ft = 3m

Speed of the rider is the

v = circumference of the circle divided by time of rotation

v = [2π(D/2)]/T

v = [2π(3/2)]/4

v = 3π/4

v = 2.36m/s

Radial acceleration can also be found as a = v²/r

Where v = speed of the rider

r = radius of the ride

a = 2.36²/1.5

a = 3.71m/s²

If the time of revolution is halved, then radial acceleration is

A = 4π²R/T²

A = (4 * π² * 3)/2²

A = 118.44/4

A = 29.61m/s²

A 50-n crate sits on a horizontal floor where the coefficient of static friction between the crate and the floor is 0.50 . A 20-
andreyandreev [35.5K]

The resultant static friction force is equal to 20 N to the left.

Why?

I'm assuming that you forgot to write the question of the exercise, so,  I will try to complete it:

"A 50-n crate sits on a horizontal floor where the coefficient of static friction between the crate and the floor is 0.50 . A 20-n force is applied to the crate acting to the right. What is the resulting static friction force acting on the crate?"

So, if we are going to calculate the resulting static friction force, it means that there is no movement, we must remember that the friction coefficient will give us the maximum force before the crate starts to move.

We can calculate the static friction force by using the following formula:

Fr=F(appliedforce)

Since the crate is not moving (static), the static friction force acting on the crate will be equal to the applied force.

Calculating we have:

Fr=F(appliedforce)

Fr=20N

Hence, the static friction force is equal to 20 N to the left (since the applied force is acting to the right)

So,

FrictionForce=AppliedForce

Since the static friction force is equal to the applied force, the crate does not start to move.

Have a nice day!
