The two main points of view related to the sectarian nature of the Boxers organization were: First, the<span> Boxers started</span> as an anti-Qing movement.  They were opposed to the existing government of China. This<span> was connected</span> to their early association with the Lotus society. By the 1890's,<span> they became supporters of the Qing. H</span>owever, the Boxers retained their opposition to the foreigners.
