Christina has $103 earned from babysitting saved at home, and the amount is modeled by the function h(x) = 103. She reads about

a bank that has savings accounts that accrue interest according to the function s(x) = (1.03)x − 1. After combining the two functions, the new function is g(x) = 103(1.03)x − 1. Using complete sentences, explain what this new function means.

s(x)=1.03x−1

then you should use parens around the (x-1)

It means that her deposit is getting 3% larger each period set by the bank (i.e. month, year...).

Answer:

Christina has $103 earned from babysitting saved at home, and the amount is modeled by the function h(x) = 103.

The bank accrues interest according to the function s(x) = (1.03)^x − 1.

After combining the two functions, the new function is g(x) = 103(1.03)^x − 1. (correct form)

This equation shows that if Christina invests $103, then the amount of money she would have after (x) years. $103 will have an increase of 3% in value per year(assuming x represents years).

Strike441 [17]

Answer:

The 95% confidence interval would be given by (0.380;0.441)

Step-by-step explanation:

In a study conducted in the United Kingdom about sleeping positions, 1000 adults in the UK were asked their starting position when they fall asleep at night. The most common answer was the fetal position (on the side, with legs pulled up), with 41% of the participants saying they start in this position. Use a normal distribution to find and interpret a 95% confidence interval for the proportion of all UK adults who start sleep in this position. Use the fact that the standard error of the estimate is 0.016

1) Notation and definitions

X number of people who answer fetal position

n=1000 random sample taken

\hat p=0.41 estimated proportion of people who answer fetal position

p true population proportion of people who answer fetal position

A confidence interval is "a range of values that’s likely to include a population value with a certain degree of confidence. It is often expressed a % whereby a population means lies between an upper and lower interval".

The margin of error is the range of values below and above the sample statistic in a confidence interval.

Normal distribution, is a "probability distribution that is symmetric about the mean, showing that data near the mean are more frequent in occurrence than data far from the mean".

The population proportion have the following distribution

p \sim N(p,\sqrt{\frac{p(1-p)}{n}})

2) Confidence interval

In order to find the critical value we need to take in count that we are finding the interval for a proportion, so on this case we need to use the z distribution. Since our interval is at 95% of confidence, our significance level would be given by \alpha=1-0.95=0.05 and \alpha/2 =0.025. And the critical value would be given by:

z_{\alpha/2}=-1.96, z_{1-\alpha/2}=1.96

The confidence interval for the mean is given by the following formula:

\hat p \pm z_{\alpha/2}\sqrt{\frac{\hat p (1-\hat p)}{n}}

If we replace the values obtained we got:

0.41 - 1.96\sqrt{\frac{0.41(1-0.41)}{1000}}=0.380

0.41 + 1.96\sqrt{\frac{0.41(1-0.41)}{1000}}=0.441

The 95% confidence interval would be given by (0.380;0.441)

Please help Calculus <br> The graph of x^2=-2+y+5cosy is shown for y=11, find the derivative dy/dx
goldenfox [79]

Taking the derivative of both sides with respect to x gives

\dfrac{\mathrm d}{\mathrm dx}[x^2]=\dfrac{\mathrm d}{\mathrm dx}[-2+y+5\cos y]

\implies2x=\dfrac{\mathrm dy}{\mathrm dx}-5\sin y\,\dfrac{\mathrm dy}{\mathrm dx}

\implies\dfrac{\mathrm dy}{\mathrm dx}=\dfrac{2x}{1-5\sin y}

When y=11, we have two possible values of x:

x^2=-2+11+5\cos11\implies x=\pm\sqrt{9+5\cos11}\approx\pm3.004

so we have two possible values \dfrac{\mathrm dy}{\mathrm dx}\approx\pm1.001.

It has been reported that 5% of all undergraduate students in the U.S. who take an introductory statistics course will continue
sasho [114]

Answer:

(1) All undergraduate students in the U.S. who took an introductory statistics course.

(2) a parameter, because it is a numerical summary for a population.

(3) a statistic, because it is a numerical summary for a sample.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that it has been reported that 5% of all undergraduate students in the U.S. who take an introductory statistics course will continue their education in statistics.

A random sample of 400 students from this list was selected. Of the 400 undergraduate students, 80 (or 20%) did continue their education in statistics.

(1) In this study, the population of interest is;

All undergraduate students in the U.S. who took an introductory statistics course because the researcher believes that the value which has been reported is too low for the recent undergraduate students who have taken an introductory statistics course at his university.

(2) In this study, the 5% value could be considered a parameter, because it is a numerical summary for a population which states that this value represents all undergraduate students in the U.S. who take an introductory statistics course will continue their education in statistics.

(3) In this study, the 20% value can be considered a statistic, because it is a numerical summary for a sample which represents the % of students who did continue their education in statistics out of the 400 selected undergraduate students.

The cable company is analyzing data from two satellite television providers to determine whether their users spend more time wat
Phoenix [80]

Answer:

59%

Step-by-step explanation:

The information from Satellite Company Y is:

65 people watch live and 94 people watch recorded.

The total number of people from Y is:

65 + 94 = 159

So the probability that a random person from Y watches recorded shows more often is given by the division of the number of people watching more recorded shows (94) over the total number of people (159):

Probability = 94 / 159 = 0.5912 = 59.12%

Rounding to nearest whole percent, we have 59%
