As Bob is driving on an exit off the freeway, he comes to a stop light and sees a homeless man asking people for spare change. “

See, he’s a perfect example of why we shouldn’t be giving welfare benefits to the homeless,” Bob mutters to his wife. “He’s too lazy to get a job, but he’s healthy enough to beg people for their hard-earned money all day long.” What are the sample and the target in Bob’s argument? Are there any inductive fallacies present in Bob’s reasoning (bias, hastiness, appeal to anecdotal evidence, self-selection)? If so, explain why. If not, explain why not.

In Bob´s argument we can infer an inductive fallacy known as fallacy by association which it is affirmed that the qualities of a specific object correspond to those of a general group, through an inconsequential relationship. It is argued that one´s qualities are intrinsically or essentially qualities of another simply by association.

On this case, we can evidence a fallacy of anecdotal evidence, hurried generalization or law of small numbers which consists of establishing a generalized conclusion based on isolated or anecdotal facts.

Which of the following is the most likely reason for the difference in leaf growth? The phosphorus-starved plant was unable to s
MAXImum [283]

Answer:

The correct answer is B: The phosphorus-starved plant was unable to synthesize both the required nucleic acids and lipids, limiting growth.

Explanation:

Phosphorus is a vital component in plants because it is present in the RNA and DNA of plants, elements that helps in the storage of information on how certain functions should be performed by plants. These functions include protein synthesis, sugar metabolism, and lipids and nucleic acid synthesis. Thus in the absence of phosphorus, growth will be limited because lipids and nucleic acid would not be synthesized.

A chess-playing computer program that routinely calculates all possible outcomes of all possible game moves best illustrates pro
svetlana [45]

Answer: An algorithm

Explanation: Computer programs are algorithms. They are finite set of rules or instructions carefully written to perform a specific task. The algorithm is written in a flexible manner without the moves being 'hard-coded', This allows the program to adjust and routinely calculate all possible game moves.

Hard coding the moves reduces the flexibility of the algorithm. Hard coding is used when there is something we want to embed within our program permanently without being changed.

The algorithm only states the rules of the game, without the limiting the moves a player can make.

A child sees a zebra for the first time and calls it a horse, fitting something new into their existing schema. This is an examp
taurus [48]

Answer:

1. This is an example of assimilation.

2. This is an example of accommodation.

Explanation:

The concepts of assimilation and accommodation were introduced by psychologist Jean Piaget. According to Piaget, <u>assimilation happens when we interpret our new experiences in terms of our existing schemas.</u> That means we already possess ideas and information about the world and, when presented with something new, we place it under the same categories that already exist for us. That is what the child is doing when he/she calls the zebra a horse.

<u>Accommodation, on the other hand, takes place when we change our schema after new information is received, so that we can accommodate it.</u> That is what the child does when he/she creates a new category for the animal - it is no longer a horse, it is a zebra.
