Samara is adjusting a satellite because she finds it is not focusing the incoming radio waves perfectly. The shape of her satell

ite can be modeled by y^2=2(x+6), where x and y are modeled in inches. She realizes that the static is a result of the feed antenna shifting slightly off the focus point. What is the focus point of the satellite?

Answer:

(-5.5,0)

Step-by-step explanation:

The question is on finding the focus point of a parabola

Given y²= 2(x+6).....................................(a)

Compare equation (a) with the standard equation  (y-b)²= 2p(x-a)

y²= 2(x+6)------can be written as (y-0)²=2(x+6)

(y-0)²=2(x+6)

(y-b)²= 2p(x-a)

2p=2-----------------divide both sides by 2 to get p

p=2/2=1

For  the vertex (a,b)⇒(-6,0)

For  the focus point ( a+p/2, b)........................................(b)

Substitute values i equation (b) above

(-6+1/2 ,0) =(-5.5, 0)

Which of the following could be the ratio of the length of the longer leg of a 30-60-90 triangle to the length of its hypotenuse
Aliun [14]

Answer:

Option C is correct.

Ratio of longer leg to hypotenuse is;  \sqrt{3} : 2

Step-by-step explanation:

This is the special right angle triangle 30°-60°-90°  as shown below in the figure.

  • The side opposite the 30° angle is always the shortest because 30 degrees is the smallest angle.
  • The side opposite the 60° angle will be the longer leg, because 60 degrees is the mid-sized degree angle in this triangle.
  • Finally , the side opposite the 90° angle will always be the largest side(Hypotenuse) because 90 degrees is the largest angle.

In 30°−60°−90° right triangle,

  • the length of the hypotenuse is twice the length of the shorter leg,also
  • the length of the longer leg is \sqrt{3} times the length of the shorter leg.

Then:

the sides are in proportion i.e,  1:\sqrt{3} :2

Therefore, the ratio of the length of the longer leg to the length of its hypotenuse is:  \sqrt{3} : 2

Alaskan Salmon are fished extensively to serve in restaurants. However, there are limits to how many and the size of fish which
TEA [102]

Answer:

The salmon size is less than equal to 10.28 inches represent bottom 25% of all salmon.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given the following information in the question:

Mean, μ = 12.5 inches

Standard Deviation, σ = 3.3

We are given that the distribution of salmon size is a bell shaped distribution that is a normal distribution.

Formula:

z_{score} = \displaystyle\frac{x-\mu}{\sigma}

We have to find the value of x such that the probability is 0.25

P( X < x) = P( z < \displaystyle\frac{x - 12.5}{3.3})=0.25

Calculation the value from standard normal z table, we have,

\displaystyle\frac{x - 12.5}{3.3} = -0.674\\\\x = 10.2758\approx 10.28

Thus, the salmon size is equal to or less than 10.28 inches, they are considered small and young and represent bottom 25% of all salmon.

Anna71 [15]
As usual, draw a diagram. You can easily see that if you are x away from the wall,

<span>the angle of elevation of the bottom of the screen (A) is </span>

<span>cotA = x/3 </span>
<span>A = arccot(x/3) </span>

<span>angle B to the top is </span>

<span>cotB = x/10 </span>
<span>B = arccot(x/10) </span>

<span>So, since θ = B-A </span>
<span>dθ/dt = dB/dt - dA/dt </span>
<span>= -3/(x^2+9) + 10/(x^2+100) </span>
<span>= 7(x^2-30)/((x^2+9)(x^2+100)) </span>

<span>so, at x=30 </span>
<span>dθ/dt = 203/30300</span>

Allies plant has a height of 6meters. Radon’s plant grows 3/10 meters higher. How high does radon’s plant grow
kow [346]

The height of Radon plant is 6.3 meters

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

Given that, Allies plant has a height of 6 meters

Radon’s plant grows \frac{3}{10} meters higher

To find: Height of Radon plant

From given information,

Height of Allies plant = 6 meters

Height of radon plant = \frac{3}{10} + Height of Allies plant

Substituting the known value,

\text{ Height of radon plant} = \frac{3}{10} + 6\\\\\text{ Height of radon plant} = \frac{3+60}{10}\\\\\text{ Height of radon plant} = \frac{63}{10}\\\\\text{ Height of radon plant} = 6.3

Thus Radon plant grows to height of 6.3 meters
