Acetylene (C2H2), an important fuel in welding, is produced in the laboratory when calcium carbide (CaC2) reacts with water: CaC

2 (s) + 2 H2O (l) LaTeX: \longrightarrow⟶ C2H2 (g) + Ca(OH)2 (aq) For a sample of acetylene collected over water, total gas pressure (adjusted to barometric pressure) is 909 mmHg and the volume is 1,024 ml. At the temperature of the gas (22°C), the vapor pressure of water is 20.7 mmHg. How many grams of acetylene are collected? Enter to 3 decimal places.

Answer:

There are 1.287 grams of acetylene collected

Explanation:

Total gas pressure = 909 mmHg

Vapor pressure of water = 20.7 mmHg

Pressure of acetylene = 909 mmHg - 20.7 mmHg = 888.3 mmHg

1mmHg = 1 torr

22 ° C + 273.15 = 295.15 Kelvin

Ideal gas law ⇒ pV = nRT

⇒ with p = pressure of the gas in atm

⇒ with V = volume of the gas in L

⇒ with n = amount of substance of gas ( in moles)

⇒ with R = gas constant, equal to the product of the Boltzmann constant and the Avogadro constant (62.36 L * Torr *K^−1 *mol^−1)

⇒ with T = absolute temperature of the gas (in Kelvin)

888.3 torr * 1.024 L = n * 62.36 L * Torr *K^−1 *mol^−1 * 295.15 K

n = 0.04942 moles of C2H2

Mass of C2H2 = 0.04942 moles x 26.04 g/mole = 1.287 g

There are 1.287 grams of acetylene collected

What does the simplified model of the hall effect give for the density of free electrons in the unknown metal?
evablogger [386]
The simplified model of the hall effect proved that the current (electric) in metals are carried by electrons and not protons. The hall effect introduced the hall coefficient which is the ratio of the induced electric field to the current density x applied magnetic field. This coefficient is unique for each type of metal.

How many sodium atoms are in 0.1310 g of sodium
Lana71 [14]
To convert grams to atoms, we first need to find the moles and then multiply by Avogadro's constant.

0.1310 g * (1 mol/22.99 g) * (6.022*10^23 atom/1 mol) = 3.431 *10^21 atoms.

In a fixed cylinder are 3moles of oxygen gas at 300Kelvin and 1.25atm. What is the volume of the container?
vladimir2022 [97]

Answer:

The volume of the container is 59.112 L

Explanation:

Given that,

Number of moles of Oxygen, n = 3

Temperature of the gas, T = 300 K

Pressure of the gas, P = 1.25 atm

We need to find the volume of the container. For a gas, we know that,

PV = nRT

V is volume

R is gas constant, R = 0.0821 atm-L/mol-K

So,

V=\dfrac{nRT}{P}\\\\V=\dfrac{3\ mol\times 0.0821\ L-atm/mol-K \times 300\ K}{1.25\ atm}\\\\V=59.112\ L

So, the volume of the container is 59.112 L

In the reaction MgCl2 + 2KOH Mg(OH)2 + 2KCl, if 3 moles MgCl2 are added to 4 moles KOH, what determines how much Mg(OH)2 is made
LenKa [72]
The correct option is C. The amount of MgCl2. we know this because no matter how much you increase KOH, if you dont increase Mgcl2, the amount of Mg(OH)2 remains the same. Hope this works for you
