A student is given a sample of a blue copper sulfate hydrate. He weighs the sample in a dry covered porcelain crucible and got a

mass of 23.875 g for the crucible, lid, and sample. The mass of the empty crucible and lid was found earlier to be 22.652 g. He then heats the crucible to expel the water of hydration, keeping the crucible at red heat for 10 minutes with the lid slightly ajar. On colling, he finds the mass of crucible, lid, and contents to be 23.403 g. The sample was changed in the process to very light clue anhydrous CuSO4. How many moles of water are present per mole of CuSO4?

Answer:

There are present 5,5668 moles of water per mole of CuSO₄.

Explanation:

The mass of CuSO₄ anhydrous is:

23,403g - 22,652g = 0,751g.

mass of crucible+lid+CuSO₄ - mass of crucible+lid

As molar mass of CuSO₄ is 159,609g/mol. The moles are:

0,751g ×\frac{1mol}{159,609g} = 4,7052x10⁻³ moles CuSO₄

Now, the mass of water present in the initial sample is:

23,875g - 0,751g - 22,652g = 0,472g.

mass of crucible+lid+CuSO₄hydrate - CuSO₄ - mass of crucible+lid

As molar mass of H₂O is 18,02g/mol. The moles are:

0,472g ×\frac{1mol}{18,02g} = 2,6193x10⁻² moles H₂O

The ratio of moles H₂O:CuSO₄ is:

2,6193x10⁻² moles H₂O / 4,7052x10⁻³ moles CuSO₄ = 5,5668

That means that you have 5,5668 moles of water per mole of CuSO₄.

I hope it helps!

If the mass percentage composition of a compound is 72.1% Mn and 27.9% O, its empirical formula is
mojhsa [17]

Answer:

MnO- Manganese Oxide

Explanation:

Empirical formula: This is the formula that shows the ratio of elements

present in a

compound.

How to determine Empirical formula

1. First arrange the symbols of the elements present in the compound

alphabetically to determine the real empirical formula. Although, there

are exceptions to this rule, E.g H2So4

2. Divide the percentage composition by the mass number.

3. Then divide through by the smallest number.

4. The resulting answer is the ratio attached to the elements present in

a compound.

                                                                              Mn                         O

% composition                                                      72.1                      27.9

Divide by mass number 54.94 16

                                                                               1.31                      1.74

Divide by the smallest number 1.31 1.31

                                                                               1                    1.3

The resulting ratio is 1:1

Hence the Empirical formula is MnO, Manganese oxide

For a single component system, why do the allotropes stable at high temperatures have higher enthalpies than allotropes stable a
solniwko [45]

Answer:

The difference in the magnetic orientation influences the thermal stability of the allotropes of iron.

Explanation:

It is known that the allotropes of iron exist in three phases: α - phase, β- phase, and γ-phase. However, two prominent structures are the α - phase and γ-phase. Now, let us look at the two phrases:

α - phase

This structure is a body-centered cube. It means that the unit cell structure resembles a cube. The lattice points are in the face of the cube. This subsequently affects the magnetic structure of the iron allotrope.

γ-phase

This allotrope has a lattice structure. It simply means that the structure has lattice points on the face of the cube. The structure generally affects the magnetic properties of the transitional metal; hence the stability of the γ-phase compared to α-phase.

Air fills a room with a volume of 5600 L. Atmospheric pressure is 740 torr. What will be the pressure if all of the gas is pumpe
Lapatulllka [165]

Answer:

P_2 = 6.9\times 10^3 kpa

Explanation:

Assuming that temperature is constant

According to Boyle's Law, at constant temperature pressure is inversly proportional to the volume and mathematically it can be expressed as:

P_1V_1 = P_2V_2..........1

P_1=740torr

P_2=?

V_1=5600L

V_2=80L

from the first equation after putting all the value

we get,

P_2=51800torr =6906098.7Pa=6.91 \times 10^3 kpa

P_2 = 6.9\times 10^3 kpa
