Answer:

Methanol is produced as product of the reaction.

Explanation:

Methyl bromide contains a good leaving group Br^{-} because of high polarizability of Br atom and weak C-Br bond.

OH^{-} is a strong base as well as strong nucleophile due to small size and high electronegativity of oxygen atom.

Here methyl bromide primarily acts as an electrophile instead of an acid because of it's very weak acidity.

So, OH^{-} acts as nucleophile towards methyl bromide by replacing bromide ion and forms methanol.

Reaction goes through S_{N}2 mechanism.

Structure formula of product has been given below.

A 0.500 g sample of tin (Sn) is reacted with oxygen to give 0.534 g of product. What is the empirical formula of the oxide?
REY [17]

Answer:

Sn_2O

Explanation:

Hello,

In this case, given that the mass of the product is 0.534 g, we can infer that the percent composition of tin is:

\%Sn=\frac{0.500g}{0.534g}*100\%\\ \\\%Sn=93.6\%

Therefore, the percent composition of oxygen is 6.4% for a 100% in total. Thus, with such percents we compute the moles of each element in the oxide:

n_{Sn}=93.6gSn*\frac{1molSn}{118.8gSn} =0.788molSn\\\\n_O=6.4gO*\frac{1molO}{16gO}=0.4molO

In such a way, for finding the smallest whole number we divide the moles of both tin and oxygen by the moles of oxygen as the smallest moles:

Sn:\frac{0.788}{0.4}=2\\ \\O:\frac{0.4}{0.4}=1

Therefore, the empirical formula is:

Sn_2O

Best regards.

A sample of cacl2⋅2h2o/k2c2o4⋅h2o solid salt mixture is dissolved in ~150 ml de-ionized h2o. the oven dried precipitate has a ma
Paraphin [41]

We are given that the balanced chemical reaction is:

cacl2⋅2h2o(aq) + k2c2o4⋅h2o(aq) ---> cac2o4⋅h2o(s) + 2kcl(aq) + 2h2o(l)

We known that the product was oven dried, therefore the mass of 0.333 g pertains only to that of the substance cac2o4⋅h2o(s). So what we will do first is to convert this into moles by dividing the mass with the molar mass. The molar mass of cac2o4⋅h2o(s) is molar mass of cac2o4 plus the molar mass of h2o.

molar mass cac2o4⋅h2o(s) = 128.10 + 18 = 146.10 g /mole

moles cac2o4⋅h2o(s) = 0.333 / 146.10 = 2.28 x 10^-3 moles

Looking at the balanced chemical reaction, the ratio of cac2o4⋅h2o(s) and k2c2o4⋅h2o(aq) is 1:1, therefore:

moles k2c2o4⋅h2o(aq) = 2.28 x 10^-3 moles

Converting this to mass:

mass k2c2o4⋅h2o(aq) = 2.28 x 10^-3 moles (184.24 g /mol) = 0.419931006 g

Therefore:

The mass of k2c2o4⋅<span>h2o(aq) in the salt mixture is about 0.420 g</span>

Helium can be liquefied when he atoms are attracted to one another by intermolecular ________ forces.
SVETLANKA909090 [29]

Helium can be liquefy through a very low temperature because of the weakness of attractions between the helium atoms. In addition, helium is a noble gas that has a very weak interatomic London dispersion forces. Thus, this element would remain liquid at atmospheric pressure all the way to its liquefaction point going to absolute zero.

What is the temperature (in K) of 16.45 moles of methane gas in a 4.95 L container at 4.68 atm?
AlexFokin [52]
Using the ideal gas law: PV=nRT
P is pressure; V is volume; n is the amount in moles; R=0.082; T is temperature in K.

(4.68)*(4.95)=(16.45)*(0.0821)*T
Solve for T.
T=17.15
