The following will increase the reaction rate of this reaction:

  • The nature of the reactants: if the solid magnesium is grounded into powder this will increase the rate of the chemical reaction. The larger the surface area the faster a reaction becomes.
  • Increasing the concentration of the acidic  HNO₃ . The rate of a reaction is directly proportional to the concentration of the reactants.
  • Increase in temperature of the reaction. An increase in temperature causes the kinetic energy of reacting particles.
