The four-wheel-drive all-terrain vehicle has a mass of 320 kg with center of mass G2. The driver has a mass of 82 kg with center

of mass G1.
If all four wheels are observed to spin momentarily as the driver attempts to go forward, what is the forward acceleration of the driver and ATV?

The coefficient of friction between the tires and the ground is 0.59.

Answer:

3.924 m/s²

Explanation:

Taking the sum of all upward and downward forces,

EFy = 0;

N1 + N2 - mp.g -mv.g = 0

N1 + N2 = mp.g + mv.g

N1 and N2 are the normal reactions at the wheels, mp is the mass of the driver, mv is the mass of the vehicle and g is the acceleration due to gravity.

Substituting the values in the question,

N1 + N2 = (300+85) x 9.81

N1 + N2 = 3776.85 N

Taking sum of all horizontal forces,

EFx = (mp + mv) x a

μ(N1 + N2) = (mp + mv) x a

μ is the coefficient of friction with a value of 0.4,

Substituting values,

0.4(N1 + N2) = (300 + 85)a

N1 + N2 = 962.5a

Comparing equations,

962.5a = 3776.85

Therefore the acceleration, a = 3.924 m/s²

Oil in an engine is being cooled by air in a cross-flow heat exchanger, where both fluids are unmixed. Oil (cp = 2000 J/kg. K) f
romanna [79]

Answer:

A) \epsilon = 0.67122

B) T_{h, out} = 44.795\ degree\  C

Explanation:

Heat capacity of oil C_h =m_h C_{ph} = 0.02 \times 2 = 0.04 Kw/K

Heat capacity of airC_C = m_C C_{pc} = 0.2 \times 1 = 0.2 Kw/K

therefore C_{min = C_h

and C_{max} = C_C

we know that capacity ratio is

c = \frac{C_{min}}{C_{max}} = 0.2

NTU = \frac{U A_s}{DC_{min}} = \frac{0.05 \times 1}{0.04} 1.25

effectiveness is given as

\epsilon = 1 -e^{\frac{NTU^0.22}{c} [ exp (-cNTU^{0.78}) -1]}

\epsilon = 1 -e^{\frac{1.25^0.22}{0.2} [ exp (-0.2\times 1.25^{0.78}) -1]}

\epsilon = 0.67122

we knwo that actual heat Q is given

Q = \epsilon \times Q_{max}

Q_H  = \epsilon \times Q_{max}

Q_H  = C_h (T_{h, in} -T_{h, out})

Q_H = \epsilon C_{min} (T_{h, in} - T_{c, in})

T_{h, out} = T_{h, in} - \epsilon (T_{h, in} - T_{c, in})

T_{h, out} = 75 - 0.67122(72 - 30)

T_{h, out} = 44.795\ degree\  C

While at a concert you notice five people in the crowd headed in the same direction. Your tendency to group them is due to? *
Vlada [557]

Answer:

common fate

Explanation:

The gestalt effect may be defined as the ability of our brain to generate the whole forms from the groupings of lines, points, curves and shapes. Gestalt theory lays emphasis on the fact that whole of anything is much greater than the parts.

Some of the principles of Gestalt theory are proximity, similarity, closure, symmetry & order, figure or ground and common fate.

Common fate : According to this principle, people will tend to group things together which are pointed towards or moving in a same direction. It is the perception of the people that objects moving together belongs together.

The rate of flow through an ideal clarifier is 8000m3 /d, the detention time is 1h and the depth is 3m. If a full-length movable
Fittoniya [83]

Answer:

a) 35%

b) yes it can be improved by moving the tray near the top

   Tray should be located ( 1 to 2 meters below surface )

   max removal efficiency ≈ 70%

c) The maximum removal will drop as the particle settling velocity = 0.5 m/h

Explanation:

Given data:

flow rate = 8000 m^3/d

Detention time = 1h

depth = 3m

Full length movable horizontal tray :  1m below surface

<u>a) Determine percent removal of particles having a settling velocity of 1m/h</u>

velocity of critical sized particle to be removed = Depth / Detention time

= 3 / 1 = 3m/h

The percent removal of particles having a settling velocity of 1m/h ≈ 35%

<u>b) Determine if  the removal efficiency of the clarifier can be improved by moving the tray, the location of the tray  and the maximum removal efficiency</u>

The tray should be located near the top of the tray ( i.e. 1 to 2 meters below surface ) because here the removal efficiency above the tray will be 100% but since the tank is quite small hence the

Total Maximum removal efficiency

=  percent removal_{above} + percent removal_{below}

= ( d_{a},v_{p} ) . \frac{d_{a} }{depth}  + ( d_{a},v_{p} ) . \frac{depth - d_{a} }{depth}  = 100

hence max removal efficiency ≈ 70%

<u>c) what is the effect of moving the tray would be if the particle settling velocity were equal to 0.5m/h?</u>

The maximum removal will drop as the particle settling velocity = 0.5 m/h
