How many minutes will it take to plate out 2.19 g of chromium metal from a solution of Cr3+Cr3+ using a current of 55.2 amps in

an electrolyte cell?

Answer : The time it take to plate out will be, 3.69 minutes.

Explanation :

First we have to calculate the moles of Cr.

\text{Moles of }Cr}=\frac{\text{Mass of Cr}}{\text{Molar mass of Cr}}

Molar mass of Cr = 51.9 g/mol

\text{Moles of }Cr}=\frac{2.19g}{51.9g/mol}=0.0423mol

The cathode half-reaction is,

Cr^{3+}+3e^-\rightarrow Cr

From this we conclude that,

The number of electrons (n) in the reaction are 3.

The quantity of charge required for the reduction of 1 mole of Cr^{3+} = 3\times F

The quantity of charge required for the reduction of 0.0423 mole of Cr^{3+} = 0.0423\times 3\times F=0.1269F=0.1269\times 96500C=12245.85C

Now we have to calculate the time taken.

We know that,

q=I\times t

t=\frac{q}{I}=\frac{12245.85C}{55.2A}=221.845s=3.69min

Thus, the time it take to plate out will be, 3.69 minutes.

madreJ [45]

Answer:

No, Stephanie is incorrect. Formation of petroleum cannot take place under the presence of oxygen.

Explanation:

Since, the petroleum is fossil product. Fossil fuel are formed under high pressure and temperature with absence of oxygen for longer period. so the way she is performing is completely incorrect. With the presence of oxygen in no way petroleum will be formed. The temperature and pressure should be in different combination for the formation of the petroleum. Along with the layers of sediments to maintain the pressure is required.

Two weak acids, A and B, have pKa values of 4 and 6, respectively. Which statement is true?A) Acid A dissociates to a greater ex
zalisa [80]

Answer:

A) Acid A dissociates to a greater extent in water than acid B

Explanation:

A) Acid A dissociates to a greater extent in water than acid B

We are given the pKa for both acids, and we know

pKa = - log Ka

Taking antilog to both sides of the equation we can solve for Ka

⇒ -pKa = log Ka

-antilog pKa = Ka

10 ^-pka = Ka

So ka for acid A = 10⁻⁴

and

ka for acid B = 10⁻⁶

True the equilibrium constant for acid A is greater, so it dissociates more.

B) For solutions of equal concentration, acid B will have a lower pH.

We know the stronger acid is A, and it dissociates more. Since pH is the negative log of H₃O⁺ concentration, it follows that at equal concentrations the acid A will have at equilibrium a greater [H₃O⁺] and hence a lower pH

C) B is the conjugate base of A

False:

If B were the conjugate base of A, its Kb would have been given by:

Ka x Kb = Kw

Kb = 10⁻¹⁴/10⁻⁶ = 10⁻⁸ for the conjugate base of acid B

Kb = 10⁻¹⁴/10⁻⁴ = 10⁻¹⁰ for the conjugate base of acid A

which are not equal.

D) Acid A is more likely to be a polyprotic acid than acid B.

False

Just having the pkas for both acids one cannot know if any of the acids is polyprotic. We will need the formula for the acids.

E) The equivalence point of acid A is higher than that of acid B

False

The equivalence point depends on the the concentration of the acids and their volumes.

The equivalence point is reached in the titration when the number of equivalents of base equals the number of equivalents of acid:

# equivalents acid = # equivalents of base @ end point

and

# equivalents acid = Molarity of acid x Volume of acid

Quinine, an antimalarial drug, is 8.63% nitrogen. There are two nitrogen atoms per molecule. What is the molecular weight of qui
Furkat [3]

Answer:

324.18 g/mol

Explanation:

Let the molecular mass of the antimalarial drug, Quinine is x g/mol

According to question,

Nitrogen present in the drug is 8.63% of x

So, mass of nitrogen = \frac {8.63}{100}\times x

Also, according to the question,

2 atoms are present in 1 molecule of the drug.

Mass of nitrogen = 14.01 amu = 14.01 g/mol (grams for 1 mole)

So, mass of nitrogen = 14.01×2 = 28.02

These 2 must be equal so,

\frac {8.63}{100}\times x=28.02

solving for x, we get:

x = 324.18 g/mol

Which of the following statements are True about the experimental process used in the Diels Alder reaction?
vovikov84 [41]

Here we have to get the correct statements among the given, applicable for Diels-Alder reaction.

The true statements in case Diels-Alder reaction are-

1. An excess of Maleic anhydride is used.

2. The I.R. of the products are indistinguishable.

The Diels-Alder reaction is the most is the most important cyclo-addition reaction in organic chemistry. These are addition reactions in which ring systems are formed without eliminating any compounds.

There remains one diene and one dienophile. The reaction is reversible in nature and requires elevated temperature to obtain its transition state. The reaction rate become faster in certain condition like using of polar solvents.

Among the given statements the following statements are true-

1. An excess of maleic anhydride (the most effective di-enophile) is used to process the reaction in forward direction.

2. The products obtain in this reaction are stereoisomers thus are indistinguishable by infrared spectroscopy (IR).

The statements which are not true for the Diels-Alder reaction:

3. The re-crystallization of the products by any polar solvent like methanol is not feasible as it will cause the retro reaction due to stability of the transition state in polar solvent.

4. Cleaning of glassware are compulsory for any reaction it is not specifically true for Diels-Alder reaction.

5. The reaction occurs at elevated temperature thus flame is required.

Which of the following was most clearly, even uniquely perhaps, revealed by the discovery of the photoelectric effect?
nika2105 [10]

Answer : Option 3) Wave/Particle duality.

Explanation : The experiment on discovery of photoelectric effect revealed about the photoelectrons of light that can behave as particle or waves.

The photoelectric effect is observed when the emission of electrons or other free carriers occurs on shining a light radiation on a material. The electrons emitted from this can be called photo electrons. These photoelectrons may behave as wave or particle in duality which holds that light and matter exhibit properties of both waves and of particles.
