A car is 2.0 km west of a traffic light at t = 0 and 5.0 km east of the light at t = 6.0 min. Assume the origin of the coordinat

e system is the light and the positive x direction is eastward. (a) What are the car’s position vectors at these two times? (b) What is the car’s displacement between 0 min and 6.0 min?

Answer:

(a) Position Vectors V₁= -2î km, V₂=5î km

(b) Displacement Δx=7 km

Explanation:

Given data

Distance=2 km west at t=0

Distance=5 km east at t=6 min

Positive x is the east direction

To find

(a)Car position vector at given times

(b)Displacement between 0 to 6.0 min

Solution

For Part (a) car position vector at given times

At t=0 the distance=2 km west so conclude that x₁=-2 because it is in negative side So vector V₁

V₁= -2î km

At t=6.0 the distance=5 km east so conclude that x₂=5 because it is in positive side So vector V₂

V₂=5î km

For (b) displacement between 0 to 6.0 min

According to following mathematical law we can conclude that

Δx=x₂-x₁

Δx=5-(-2)km

Δx=7 km

A snowball is melting at a rate of 324π mm3/s. At what rate is the radius decreasing when the volume of the snowball is 972π mm3
Oduvanchick [21]

Answer:

The radius is decreasing at 4 mm/s

Explanation:

The volume of a sphere is:

V = 4/3*\pi *r^3   So, when the volume is 972π mm^3 the radius r is:

r = 9mm

Now, the change rate is given by the derivative:

dV/dt = 4/3*\pi *3*r^2*dr/dt

Where: dV/dt = -324π mm^2/s

            r = 9mm

Solving for dr/dt:

dr/dt = -4mm/s

abin is doing work by lifting a bowling ball. Which statement could be made about the energy in this situation?
PtichkaEL [24]
The statement that could be made about the energy in this situation would be :
It being transferred from his arms muscles to the ball.

The muscle contraction from his arms created a force that could be used to lift the ball up.<span />

Among the largest passenger ships currently in use, the Norway has been in service the longest. The Norway is more than 300 m lo
LenaWriter [7]

Answer:

6.33\times 10^8\ kg\cdot m/s

Explanation:

Mass of the ship (m) = 6.9 × 10⁷ kg

Speed of the ship (v) = 33 km/h

First, let us convert the speed from km/h to m/s using the conversion factor.

We know that, 1 km/h = 5/18 m/s

So, 33 km/h = 33\times \frac{5}{18}=9.17\ m/s

Now, we know, the momentum of an object only depends on its mass and speed. Momentum is independent of the length of the object.

So, here, length of the ship doesn't play any role in the determination of the momentum.

Magnitude of momentum of the ship = Mass × Speed

                                                             = (6.9\times 10^7\ kg)(9.17\ m/s)

                                                             = 6.33\times 10^8\ kg\cdot m/s

Therefore, the magnitude of ship's momentum is 6.33\times 10^8\ kg\cdot m/s.
