Carla holds a ball 1.5 m above the ground. Daniel, leaning out of a car window, also holds a ball 1.5 mabove the ground. Daniel

drives past Carla at 40 mph and, just as he passes her, both release their balls at the same instant. Who's ball hits the ground first?

Answer:Same instant

Explanation:

Both balls hit the ground at the same instant

When Daniel drops the ball then it has an additional horizontal component of velocity which will cause the ball to move horizontally while falling down,

For both the cases ball has zero initial vertical velocity and needs to cover a distance of 1.5 m .

So time taken to cover 1.5 m vertically will be same

Richard needs to fly from san diego to halifax, nova scotia and back in order to give an important talk about mathematics. on th
kondor19780726 [428]

When plane is going towards Halifax the speed of wind is in the direction of fly

so overall the net speed of the plane will increase

while when he is on the way back the air is opposite to flight so net speed will decrease

now the total time of the journey is 13 hours

out of this 2 hours he spent in mathematics talk

so total time of the fly is 13 - 2 = 11 hours

now we have formula to find the time to travel to Halinex

t_1 = \frac{d}{v + 50}

time taken to reach back

t_2 = \frac{d}{v - 50}

now we have total time

T = t_1 + t_2

11 = \frac{d}{v - 50} + \frac{d}{v + 50}

here d= 3000 miles

11 = \frac{3000}{v - 50} + \frac{3000}{v + 50}

3.67 * 10^{-3} = \frac{2v}{v^2 - 2500}

v^2 - 2500 = 545.45v

solving above quadratic equation we will have

v = 550 mph

so speed of plane will be 550 mph

Which of the following statements best describes the characteristic of the restoring force in the spring-mass system described i
Grace [21]

Answer : The restoring force is directly proportional to the displacement of the block.

Explanation :

Restoring force is defined as the force that is exerted by the spring due to its mass.

Mathematically, the restoring force can be written as :

F\propto-x

F = - k x

where,

k is the spring constant.

x is the displacement caused due to the mass.

Negative sign shows that the force is acting in opposite direction.

So, it is clear that the restoring force is directly proportional to the displacement of the block.

Hence, the correct option is (b) " The restoring force is directly proportional to the displacement of the block ".

If you wished to warm 100 kg of water by 15 degrees celsius for your bath, how much heat would be required? (give your answer in
Anit [1.1K]
For the answer to the question above,
<span>Q = amount of heat (kJ) </span>
<span>cp = specific heat capacity (kJ/kg.K) = 4.187 kJ/kgK </span>
<span>m = mass (kg) </span>
<span>dT = temperature difference between hot and cold side (K). Note: dt in °C = dt in Kelvin </span>

<span>Q = 100kg * (4.187 kJ/kgK) * 15 K </span>
<span>Q = 6,280.5 KJ = 6,280,500 J = 1,501,075.5 cal</span>

A 5.0-kilogram box is sliding across a level floor. The box is acted upon by a force of 27 newtons east and a frictional force o
marshall27 [118]

Answer:

The magnitude of the acceleration of the box is 2 m/s².

Explanation:

Given:

Mass of the box, m=5.0 kg

Force acting towards east, F=27 N

Frictional force acting towards west, f=17 N

Let the acceleration be a m/s².

Now, net force acting on the box towards east is given as:

F_{net}=F-f=27-17=10\textrm{ N}

From Newton's second law of motion,

F_{net}=ma\\10=5.0\times a\\a=\frac{10}{5.0}=2\textrm{ }m/s^2

Therefore, the magnitude of the acceleration of the box is 2 m/s².
