The speed of light in glass 1.97 \times 10^{8}\ \mathrm{m} / \mathrm{s}

The speed of light in Ruby is 1.75 \times 10^{8} \mathrm{m} / \mathrm{s}

The refractive index of air with respect to glass is 0.666

<u>Explanation:</u>

The refractive index is the degree of diffraction of a light beam passing from one medium to another. It can also be defined as the ratio of the speed of light in an empty space to the speed of light in a material. The equation is given as

          \text {refractive index, n\ or } \mu=\frac{\text c}{\text {v}}

Given data:

\mu_{\text {glass}}=1.52

\mu_{r u b y}=1.71

Velocity of light in vacuum, c = 3 \times 10^{8} \mathrm{m} / \mathrm{s}

We need to find velocity of glass, ruby and refractive index ratio of air and glass

To find velocity of glass,

1.52=\frac{3 \times 10^{8}}{\text {velocity of glass}}

\text {velocity of glass}=\frac{3 \times 10^{8}}{1.52}=1.97 \times 10^{8} \mathrm{m} / \mathrm{s}

To find velocity of ruby,

1.71=\frac{3 \times 10^{8}}{\text {velocity of Ruby}}

\text {velocity of Ruby}=\frac{3 \times 10^{8}}{1.71}=1.75 \times 10^{8}\ \mathrm{m} / \mathrm{s}

To calculate the refractive index of air with respect to glass:   =  \frac{\mathrm{n}_{\text {air}}}{\mathrm{n}_{\text {glass}}}

We know, the value of the refractive index of air is 1

The value of the refractive index of glass is 1.5

So, the ratio of them should be \frac{1}{1.5}=0.666

Scilla [17]
Given:
rod of circular cross section is subjected to uniaxial tension.
Length, L=1500 mm
radius, r = 10 mm
E=2*10^5 N/mm^2
Force, F=20 kN = 20,000 N
[note: newton (unit) in abbreviation is written in upper case, as in  N ]

From given above, area of cross section = &pi; r^2 = 100 &pi; =314 mm^2
(i) Stress,
&sigma;
=force/area
= 20000 N / 314 mm^2
= 6366.2 N/mm^2
= 6370 N/mm^2 (to 3 significant figures)

(ii) Strain
&epsilon;
= ratio of extension / original length
= &sigma; / E
= 6366.2 /(2*10^5)
= 0.03183
= 0.0318 (to three significant figures)

(iii) elongation
= &epsilon; * L
= 0.03183*1500 mm
= 47.746 mm
= 47.7 mm  (to three significant figures)

A sock with a mass of 0.03 kg is stuck to the inside of a clothes dryer spins
ValentinkaMS [17]

Answer:

15.71 m/s

Explanation:

We are given;

Time; t = 0.2 s

Radius; r = 0.5 m

The circumference will give us the distance covered.

Formula for circumference is 2πr

Thus; Distance = 2πr = 2 × π × 0.5 = π

Linear speed = distance/time = π/0.2 = 15.71 m/s

MrRa [10]
Convection can best be observed as she blows the warm steam air that rises.

As the warm steam rises,  she forces displaces it with cool air from her mouth. Because the warm steam is less dense it rises and because the cool air is more dense, it displaces the warm air.

This scenario is an example of convection.
