A 2-kg disk is constrained horizontally but is free to move vertically. The disk is struck from below by a vertical jet of water

. The speed and diameter of the water jet are 10 m/s and 25 mm at the nozzle exit. Obtain a general expression for the speed of the water jet as a function of height, h. Find the height to which the disk will rise and remain stationary

Answer:

h = 4.281 m

Explanation

Given Data,

Weight of disk = 2kg

Speed of water jet (V) = 10 m/s

diameter of water jet = 25 mm

Cal. the velocity of the water jet as function height by applying Bernoulli's  eqtn of water surface to the jet

\frac{P}{\rho } +\frac{V^{2}}{2} + gz = Constant

\frac{V_{0}^{2}}{2} + g(0) = \frac{V^{2}}{2} + g

V=\sqrt{V_{0}^{2}-2gh}

Relation between  V_{0} & V

m=\rho V_{0}A_{0}

\rho VA=\rho V_{0}A_{0}

VA= V_{0}A_{0}

Momentum

F_{w}+F_{d}= \frac{\partial }{\partial t}\int_{cv} w\rho dA + \int_{cs} w\rho V dA

-mg = w_{1}[-\rho VA] +w_{2}[\rho VA]

w_{1} = V

w_{2} = 0

mg = \rho V^{2}A

mg = \rho VV_{0} A

mg = \rho VV_{0} A_{0}

mg = \rho V_{0} A_{0} \sqrt{V_{0} ^{2}-2gh }

Solving for h

h = \frac{1}{2g}[V_{0}^{2}-\frac{mg}{\rho V_{0}A_{0}}]

g is gravitational acc.

= \frac{1}{2\times 9.81}[10^{2}-(\frac{2\times 9.81}{999\times10\times\frac{\Pi }{4}\times(0.025)^{2}})^{2} ]

= \frac{1}{19.62}[100-(\frac{19.68}{4.9038})^{2}]

= \frac{100-16.0078}{19.62}

h = 4.281 m

h of disk on which it remains stationary.

What is the radius of an automobile tire that turns with a period of 0.091 s and has a linear
faust18 [17]

Answer:

1) The radius of the tire is approximately 0.28966 meters

2) The centripetal force is the force that keeps a body moving on a circular path

Explanation:

1) The linear speed of the automobile tire = 20.0 m/s

The period with which the tire turns = 0.091 s

The period = The time it takes to make a complete turn

Therefore;

The number of turns in 1 second = 1/0.091 ≈ 10.989 turns

The distance covered with 10.989 turns, assuming no friction = 10.989 × The circumference of the tire

∴ The distance covered with 10.989 turns, assuming no friction = 10.989 × 2 × π × Radius of the tire

From the speed of the car, 20.0 m/s, we have;

The distance covered in 1 second = 20.0 meters

Therefore;

10.989 × 2 × π × Radius of the tire = 20.0 meters

Radius of the tire = (20.0 meters)/(10.289 × 2 × π) ≈ 0.28966 meters

The radius of the tire ≈ 0.28966 meters

2) The centripetal force is the force required to maintain the curved motion of an object, and having a direction towards the center of the rotary motion.

The centripetal force is given by the formula, F = \dfrac{m \cdot v^2}{r}

Where;

F = The centripetal force

m = The mass of the object

v = The linear velocity of the object

r = The radius of the rotational motion.

You are standing at the midpoint between two speakers, a distance D away from each. The speakers are playing the exact same soun
Rzqust [24]

Answer:

Explanation:

wave length of sound waves = velocity / frequency

= 340 / 170

λ = 2 m.

When the position of man is exactly at the meddle point between the speakers , sound waves from the speakers reaching man are in same phases ( path difference is zero. ) so intensity of sound is maximum .

Now , the man starts moving towards one of the speakers , his distance from one speaker becomes closer than the other creating path difference for the sound waves reaching his ears.

If he walks a distance of .5 m towards one speaker , path difference created

= .5 x 2 = 1 m

So , path difference = λ /2 ,

there will be destructive interference so minimum sound will be heard there.

When he walks a distance of 1 m , path difference created = 2m

path difference =  λ

so there is constructive interference and maximum  sound will be heard there.

Again we he walks a distance of 1.5 m , path difference created = 3 m

path difference = 3 λ /2

So there will be destructive interference so minimum sound will be heard there.

In this way we see that man starts  from a point of maximum sound intensity , reaches a point of minimum sound intensity , then reaches a point of maximum sound intensity . At last he reaches a position of minimum sound intensity.

In springboard diving, the diver strides out to the end of the board, takes a jump onto its end, and uses the resultant spring-l
Ksenya-84 [330]

Answer:

10.4 m/s

Explanation:

The problem can be solved by using the following SUVAT equation:

v=u+at

where

v is the final velocity

u is the initial velocity

a is the acceleration

t is the time

For the diver in the problem, we have:

u=+6.3 m/s is the initial velocity (positive because it is upward)

a=g=-9.8 m/s^2 is the acceleration of gravity (negative because it is downward)

By substituting t = 1.7 s, we find the velocity when the diver reaches the water:

v=+6.3 + (-9.8)(1.7)=-10.4 m/s

And the negative sign means that the direction is downward: so, the speed is 10.4 m/s.
