In a series circuit, a generator (1300 Hz, 12.0 V) is connected to a 14.0- resistor, a 4.40-μF capacitor, and a 6.00-mH inductor

. Find the voltages across (a) the resistor, (b) the capacitor, and (c) the inductor. Note: The ac current and voltage are rms values and power is an average value unless indicated otherwise.

Answer:

(a) 2.8 V

(b) 5.6 V

(c) 9.8 V

Explanation:

Given:

Frequency of the generator (f) = 1300 Hz)

Terminal voltage (V) =12.0 V

Resistance of resistor (R) = 14.0 Ω

Capacitance of capacitor (C) = 4.40 μF = 4.40 × 10⁻⁶ F

Inductance of the inductor (L) = 6.00 mH = 6.00 × 10⁻³ H

In order to find the voltages across each, we first need to find the reactance and impedance.

Reactance of the inductor is given as:

X_L=2\pi f L\\\\X_L=2\times 3.14\times 1300\times 6.00\times 10^{-3}\\\\X_L=49\ \Omega

Reactance of the capacitor is given as:

X_C=\frac{1}{2\pi fC}\\\\X_C=\frac{1}{2\times 3.14\times 1300\times 4.40\times 10^{-6}}\\\\X_C =28\ \Omega

Now, impedance is given as:

Z=\sqrt{X_L^2+X_C^2}\\\\Z=\sqrt{(49)^2+(28)^2}\\\\Z=\sqrt{3185}=56.4\ \Omega

Current across the circuit is given as:

I=\frac{V}{Z}\\\\I=\frac{12}{56.4}=0.2\ A

As resistor, capacitor and inductor are connected in series, the current across each of them is same and equal to total current in the circuit.

(a)

Voltage across the resistor is given as:

V_R=IR\\\\V_R=0.2\times 14=2.8\ V

Therefore, the voltage across resistor is 2.8 V.

(b)

Voltage across the capacitor is given as:

V_C=IX_C\\\\V_C=0.2\times 28=5.6\ V

Therefore, the voltage across the capacitor is 5.6 V.

(c)

Voltage across the inductor is given as:

V_L=IX_L\\\\V_L=0.2\times 49=9.8\ V

Therefore, the voltage across the inductor is 9.8 V.

Two objects, X and Y, move toward one another and eventually collide. Object X has a mass of 2M and is moving at a speed of 2v0
Sergeu [11.5K]

Answer:

c. The force exerted by X on Y is F to the right, and the force exerted by Yon X is F to the left.

Explanation:

If we take both objects as one single system, during the collision, assuming no external forces acting, the only forces present are the one that object X exerts on object Y, and the force that object Y does on object X.

These two forces, according to Newton's 3rd Law, form an action-reaction pair, and consequently, are equal in magnitude, acting in opposite directions.

As the object X is moving to the right, the force that produces, (F), is in the same direction (on Y), while for object Y, moving to the left, the force that produces (F also in magnitude) is in the same direction (on X), so the right answer is c.

The effect of the forces is different, due to masses are different, according Newton's 2nd Law.

There are devices to put in a light socket that control the current through a lightbulb, thereby increasing its lifetime. Which
Dmitrij [34]

Answer: B

Explanation:

Limiting the maximum current through the bulb. This will help in preserving or improving the bulb's lifetime and also this won't have an effect on the brightness of the bulb as brightness is affected by the average value. Although brightness is a factor of current, reducing the maximum current won't have any bearing on the average current the bulb is getting.

A Porsche 944 Turbo has a rated engine power of 217 hp. 30% of the power is lost in the drive train, and 70% reaches the wheels.
shutvik [7]

Answer:

a = 6.53 m/s^2

v = 11.5689 m/s

Explanation:

Given data:

engine power is 217 hp

70 % power reached to wheel

total mass ( car + driver) is 1530 kg

from the data given

2/3 rd of weight is over the wheel

w = 2/3rd mg

maximum force

F = \mu W

we know that F = ma

ma =  \mu (2/3 mg)

a_{max} = 2/3(1.00) (9.8) = 6.53 m/s^2

the new power is p  = 70\% P_[max} = 0.7 P_{max}

P =f_{max} v

0.7P_{max} = ma_{max} v

solving for speed v

v =0.7 \times \frac{P_{max}}{ma_{max}}

v = 0.7 \frac{217 [\frac{746 w}{1 hp}]}{1500 \times 6.53}

v = 11.5689 m/s

A car is traveling at 120 km/h (75 mph). When applied the braking system can stop the car with a deceleration rate of 9.0 m/s2.
Bumek [7]

Answer:

the number of additional car lengths approximately it takes the sleepy driver to stop compared to the alert driver is 15

Explanation:

Given that;

speed of car V  = 120 km/h = 33.3333 m/s

Reaction time of an alert driver = 0.8 sec

Reaction time of an alert driver = 3 sec

extra time taken by sleepy driver over an alert driver = 3 - 0.8 = 2.2 sec

now, extra distance that car will travel in case of sleepy driver  will be'

S_d = V × 2.2 sec

S_d = 33.3333 m/s × 2.2 sec

S_d = 73.3333 m

hence, number of car of additional car length  n will be;

n = S_n / car length

n = 73.3333 m / 5m

n = 14.666 ≈ 15

Therefore, the number of additional car lengths approximately it takes the sleepy driver to stop compared to the alert driver is 15

a batter hits a homerun in which the ball travels 110m horizontally with no appreciable air resistance. If the ball left the bat
e-lub [12.9K]

If you know the formula for horizontal range, then finding the solution is immediate:

r=\dfrac{{v_0}^2\sin2\theta}g

110\,\mathrm m=\dfrac{{v_0}^2\sin100^\circ}{9.8\,\frac{\mathrm m}{\mathrm s^2}}\implies v_0\approx33\,\dfrac{\mathrm m}{\mathrm s}
