Answer:

Pd(O2C2H3)2

Explanation:

<u>Percentage composition of elements in the compound:</u>

Pd= 47.40%

O=28.50%

C=21.40%

H= 2.69%

<u>Molar mass of each element</u>

Pd= 106g/mol

O= 16g/mol

C= 12g/mol

H= 1g/mol

Step 1

Find the moles of each element in 100g sample using the formula

no. of moles(n)=mass/molar mass

<u>For Pd:</u> 47.40g/106g/mol

      n=   0.447 moles

<u>For O:</u> 28.50/16

      n= 1.78 moles

<u>For C:</u> 21.40/12

       n= 1.783 moles

<u>For H:</u> 2.69/1

     n= 2.69moles

Step 2

Now divide the no. of moles separately by the smallest number of moles. Smallest number of moles is <em>0.447</em>

Pd= 0.447/0.447

    = 1

O= 1.78/0.447

  = 3.9=4

C= 1.78/0.447

  = 3.9=4

H= 2.69/0.447

 = 6

Hence empirical formula is PdO4C4H6

The probable molecular formula is Pd(O_{2}C_{2}H_{3})2

What volume in<br><br> L<br><br> of a 0.724 M Nal solution contains 0.405 mol of Nal ?
Amanda [17]

Answer:

0.5594\ \text{L}

Explanation:

Mol of NaI = 0.405 mol

Molarity of solution = 0.724 M

Molarity is given by

M=\dfrac{\text{mol}}{\text{Volume of solution in }NaI}\\\Rightarrow \text{Volume of solution in }NaI=\dfrac{0.405}{0.724}\\\Rightarrow \text{Volume of solution in }NaI=0.5594\ \text{L}

The required volume is 0.5594\ \text{L}.

Using periodic trends, place the following bonds in order of increasing ionic character. Si-P Si-Cl Si-S Using periodic trends,
mars1129 [50]

Answer: Option (5) is the correct answer.

Explanation:

An ionic bond is formed by transfer of electrons between the two chemically combining atoms. Whereas a covalent bond is defined as the bond formed by sharing of electrons between the two chemically combining atoms.

When electronegativity difference is from 0.0 to 0.4 then bond formed between the two atoms is non-polar covalent in nature.

When electronegativity difference is greater than 0.4 and less than 1.7 then bond between the two atoms is a polar covalent bond.

When electronegativity difference is 1.7 or greater than the bond formed is ionic in nature.

Therefore, electronegativity difference of the given species is as follows.

Si-P = 2.1 - 1.8 = 0.3

Si-Cl = 3.0 - 1.8 = 1.2

Si-S = 2.5 - 1.8 = 0.7

Thus, we can conclude that given bonds are placed in order of increasing ionic character as follows.

                           Si-P < Si-S < Si-Cl

The Lewis structures of four compounds are given. In the first molecule sufur is the central atom. There are two oxygen atoms bo
vesna_86 [32]

Answer:

Compound 1. Sulfur Dioxide

Compound 3. Dichloromethane

Compound 4. Phosphorus Trichloride

<em>(figure attached)</em>

Explanation:

Compound 1. Sulfur Dioxide

Polar compound

Through the Lewis structure it is confirmed that SO₂ is a polar compound, because it is an asymmetric compound having two regions of different polarity. The lower region having oxygen groups is more electronegative then the upper region.

Compound 2. Carbon Dioxide

Non polar Compound

Through the Lewis structure it is confirmed that CO₂ is a non polar compound, because it is a symmetric compound having two regions of same polarity. The left region and the right region both contains oxygen groups having same electronegativity.

Compound 3. Dichloromethane

Polar compound

Through the Lewis structure it is confirmed that CH₂Cl₂ is a polar compound, because it is an asymmetric compound having two regions of different polarity. Two chlorine atoms are attached to it and as we know that chlorine is a more electronegative element than hydrogen so it attracts the bonding pair of electrons towards itself which creates polarity.

Compound 4. Phosphorus Trichloride

Through the Lewis structure it is confirmed that PCl₃ is a polar compound, because three chlorine atoms attached to it and as we know that chlorine is a more electronegative element so it attracts the bonding pair of electrons towards itself which creates polarity.

Draw the Lewis structure for CH3CH2O2H?
kotegsom [21]

Answer:

hydroperoxyethane

Explanation:

tomsFor the Lewis structure we have to remember that all the atoms must have <u>8 electrons</u> (except for hydrogen). In this structure, we have three types of atoms, Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen. So, we have to remember the <u>valence electrons</u> for each atom:

-) Carbon : 4 electrons

-) Hydrogen: 1 electron

-) Oxygen: 6 electrons

We can start with the "CH_3" part. We can put 3 hydrogen bond arroun the carbon. We can use this same logic with  "CH_2". Finally for oxygens, we can put it one bond with CH_2 and a bond between oxygens with a final bond with hydrogen to obtain <u>hydroperoxyethane</u>.

See figure 1 for further explanations.
