Answer:

1.4in

Step-by-step explanation:

Length of Photo = 4in

Width of Photo = 3in

Unknown:

Value of X = ?

Solution:

Follow these steps:

  Area of a rectangle  = l x w

Since the photo is a rectangle; area of photo:

  Area of photo  = 4in x 3in = 12in²

For the area of the ad;

   Length of ad  = 4 + x

   Width of ad = 3 + x

Given that,

                  the area of the photo  = \frac{1}{2} area of ad

                           12in²  = \frac{1}{2} area of ad

                   Area of ad  = 24in²

Area of the ad;

             (4 + x) (3 + x)  = 24

               12 + 4x + 3x + x² = 24

                12 + 7x + x²  = 24

                       x² + 7x = 24 - 12

                       x² + 7x = 12

                     x² + 7x - 12  = 0

            Using the almighty formula where

     a  = 1, b = 7 and c = -12

          x  = \frac{-b (+/-) \sqrt{b^{2} } - 4ac}{2a}

          x = \frac{-7 + \sqrt[]{-7^{2} - 4x1x-12 } }{2x1}   or \frac{-7 - \sqrt[]{-7^{2} - 4x1x-12 } }{2x1}

          x  = 1.4  or  -8.4

therefore the answer is 1.4in

x is 1.4in

24. ABCDE and PQRST are regular pentagons.
SIZIF [17.4K]

Answer:

126°

Step-by-step explanation:

In quadrilateral DSRC, SR || DC (given)

AP = BQ = CR = DS = ET (given)

\therefore CR bisects \angle DCB

\therefore m\angle DCR=\frac{108\degree}{2}

(108\degree is the measure of an angle of pentagon)

\therefore m\angle DCR=54\degree

\because m\angle DCR + m\angle SRC=180\degree

(Measure of interior angles on the same side of transversal)

\therefore 54\degree + m\angle SRC=180\degree

\therefore  m\angle SRC=180\degree- 54\degree

\therefore  m\angle SRC=126\degree

Nikki used the calculations shown to determine whether a carton of 12 eggs or a carton of 18 eggs was the better buy. A carton o
Lemur [1.5K]

Given :

A carton of 12 eggs or a carton of 18 eggs was the better buy. A carton of 12 eggs cost $2.39, and a carton of 18 eggs cost $3.39. Unit price of the 12-egg carton = ($2.39)(12 eggs) = $28.68 per egg Unit price of the 18-egg carton = ($3.39)(18 eggs) = $61.02 per egg The 12-egg carton has the lower unit cost, so it is the better buy.

To Find :

What was her first error.

Solution :

Her first error is to find Unit price of egg in each carton.

To find, unit price we should divide total amount by number of units :

Unit price for carton of 12 eggs, $ (2.39)/12 = $0.199 .

Hence, this is the required solution.

Polygons ABCD and EFGH are similar. Find the length of EH?
3241004551 [841]

Most likely, polygon <span>ABCD</span> has sides of known lengths.
It is also likely that one of the sides of polygon <span>EFGH</span> (not <span>EH</span>) is also known. For instance, its side <span>EF</span>.

If the above is true, we can find the scaling factor as a ratio between lengths of corresponding sides:
<span>r=<span><span>EF</span><span>AB</span></span></span>

Since this ratio is constant for any two corresponding lengths,
<span>r=<span><span>EH</span><span>AD</span></span></span>

From the last two equations we can derive:
<span>EH=AD⋅<span><span>EF</span><span>AB</span></span></span>
