Answer:

In the absence of urease this will take 950 * 10^6 years to  completely hydrolyze

Explanation:

The enzyme urease enhances the rate of urea hydrolysis at pH 8.0 and 20 degrees by a factor of 10^14 . If a given quantity of urease can completely hydrolyze a given quantity of urea in 5 min at 20 degrees and pH 8.0, how long would it take for this amount of urea to be hydrolyzed under the same conditions in the absence of urease?

Step 1: data given

The enzyme urease enhaces the rate of urea hydrolysis at pH = 8.0 of centigrade by a factor of 10^14

Temperature = 20.0 °C

Step 2: Calculate the time it takes to completely hydrolyze without urease

This means when urease is available it takes 5 minutes to completely hydrolyze

When urease is not available it will take 5 *10^14 minutes

5 * 10^14 min = 5 * 10^14 minutes

Since 1 hour = 60 minutes

1 day = 24 hours = 24 *60 minutes = 1440 minutes

It would take :  5 * 10^14 minutes / 1440 minutes = 347222222222.2 days

Since 1 year = 365 days

This will take: 347222222222.2 / 365.25 = 950642634.4 years

This 950 * 10^6 years

In the absence of urease this will take 950 * 10^6 years

The molecular weight of a gas is ________ g/mol if 6.7 g of the gas occupies 6.3 l at stp.
PIT_PIT [208]
At STP, also known as standard temperature and pressure, 1 mole of a gas occupies 22.4 L. Since we are given with the volume of 6.3L, we calculate the amount of gas in mol.
                               n = (6.3L)/ (22.4L/mol) = 0.28125 mol
We are given with the mass of 6.7 g. Therefore, the molar mass or molecular weight of the gas is equal to,
                                          6.7g/0.28125 mol = 23.82 g/mol

How many grams of nano3 would you add to 500g of h2o in order to prepare a solution that is 0.500 molal in nano3?
VARVARA [1.3K]
When the concentration is expressed in molality, it is expressed in moles of solute per kilogram of solvent. Since we are given the mass of the solvent, which is water, we can compute for the moles of solute NaNO3.

0.5 m = x mol NaNO3/0.5 kg water
x = 0.25 mol NaNO3

Since the molar mass of NaNO3 is 85 g/mol, the mass is

0.25 mol * 85 g/mol = 21.25 grams NaNO3 needed

A piece of aluminum foil 1.00cm square and 0.590mm thick is allowed to react with bromine to form aluminum bromide. Part A How m
nalin [4]

Answer:

Part A: 5.899x10^-3 moles of Al

Part B: 1.573 g of AlBr3

Explanation:

Part A: We have to obtain the volume of the piece of aluminium; all sides of the square must be in cm. Then, use the density to obtain the mass.

0.590 mm  (\frac{1 cm}{10 mm}) = 0.059 cm

V= lxlxl= (1cm)(1cm)(0.059 cm)= 0.059 cm^3.

0.059 is the volume of the Al udes for the reaction. Now, to oabtain the moles:

0.059 cm^3 Al(\frac{2.699 g Al}{1 cm^3 Al})(\frac{1 mol Al}{27 g Al})= 5.899x10^-3 moles

Part B: To obatin the mass of AlBr3, we need the balanced chemical equation:

                                               2Al + 3Br2 → 2AlBr3

We assume bromine (Br2) is in excess, therefore, we calculate the aluminum bromide formed from the Al:

5.898 x 10^-3 moles Al (\frac{2 moles AlBr3}{2 moles Al}) (\frac{266.7 g AlBr3}{1 mol AlBr3}) = 1.573 g of Al
