The cumulative frequency diagram shows the times taken by the members of two different clubs, The Braineys and The Cleverities,

to complete an intelligence test.
a) Find the median and the interquartile range for the Cleverities

b) State which club, on average, was slowest at completing the test. Give the reason for your answer.

Answer:

a) median= 25 mins

   interquartile range= 19mins

b) the braineys , because the braineys took 32mins on average and the cleverites took 25 mins on average which is 7 minutes more.

Step-by-step explanation:

a) find the median by going across the middle of the cumulative frequency (in this case, 40) until it hits the line (the cleverites) and move down to see the time in minutes. 25 mins.

to find the interquartile range, first find the lower quartile. So find the half of the median, or the quarter of the cumulative frequency ( 20) and go across until it hits the line and look down from that point to find the time ( 15 mins). Then, find the upper quartile by finding 3/4 or half+quarter of the cumulative frequency (60) and do the same with the line (34mins)

the interquartile is upper quartile - lower quartile

34-15= 19 mins

interquartile= 19 mins.

b) the average is the same as the median, so find the median for the cleverites and the median for the braineys, which is 25 mins and 32 mins, therefore the braineys took longer, thus was the slowest at completing the test on average.

You are playing a board game with a friend. She owns and has developed the tiles Green Gardens and Silver Sidewalks. If you roll
IgorC [24]

Answer:

The expected value can be calculated as:

Es = x₁*p₁ + x₂*p2 + .....

where xₙ is the event (the amount of money that you win or lose, and pₙ is the probability for the event)

for example, in a 10 side dice, the probability of obtaining a specific number is 1/10.

we have a d10 i guess (a dice with 10 sides, 1 to 10)

if you roll from 1 to 7, nothing happens.

If you roll an 8, you lose $1500

if you roll a 9, you lose $75

if you roll a 10, you lose $2000 (and the game)

the expected value is,

Es = 1/10*(7*0 - 1*$1500 - 1*$75 - 1*$2000) = -$357

in the second case, you start paying $500.

if you roll a 7, you must pay $1000, if else, nothing happens.

Then the expected value is

Es = -$500 - 1/10*(-1*$1000 + 9*$0) = -$600

So the expected value is smaller in this case, so the deal is not fair

A candy manufacturer makes two types of special candy, say A and B. Candy A consists of equal parts of dark chocolate and carame
Sphinxa [80]
If we let x as candy A
y as candy B
a as dark chocolate in candy a
b as dark chocolate in candy b
c as caramel
d as walnut
P as profit
we have the equations:
a + c = x
2b + d = y
a + 2b ≤ 360
c ≤ 430
d ≤ 210
P = 285x + 260y

This is an optimization problem which involves linear programming. It can be solved by graphical method or by algebraic solution.
P = 285(a + c) + 260(2b +d)
If we assume a = b
Then a = 120, 2b = 240
P = 285(120 + 120) + 260(240 + 120)
P = 162000
candy A should be = 240
candy B should be = 360

A weather station in a major city in the Northwest kept data about the weather conditions over the past year. The probabilities
Black_prince [1.1K]
It is important to note that all the information's required are already given in the question

Probability that a day will be hot = 0.15 + 0.10
                                                   = 0.25
Probability that a day will be sunny = 0.15 + 0.30 + 0.10
                                                        = 0.55
Adding the above two probabilities, we get = 0.25 + 0.55
                                                                     = 0.80
Now
Probability that a day will be both hot and sunny = 0.15
So
Probability that a day was hot or sunny = 0.80 - 0.15
                                                               = 0.65
I hope the procedure is clear enough for you to understand.
