A sample of sodium reacts completely with 0.355 kg of chlorine, forming 585 g of sodium chloride. What mass of sodium reacted?
Kay [80]

Answer:

The mass of sodium that reacted is 230 grams

Explanation:

The balance equation of the reaction is first written .

sodium = Na

Chlorine = Cl2

sodium chloride = NaCl

2Na + Cl2 → 2NaCl

from the balance equation we calculate the molar mass involve in the reaction

Molar mass of sodium from the equation = 23(2) = 46 g

molar mass of sodium chloride from the eqaution = 23 × 2 + 35.5 × 2 = 46 + 71 = 117 g

If 46g of sodium is in 117 g of sodium chloride

? gram will be in 585 g of sodium chloride

cross multiply

46 × 585/117 = 26910/117 = 230 g

The mass of sodium that reacted is 230 grams

Suppose you have two cubes of exactly the same volume. You weigh them and find a mass of 8.91g for one and 8.88g for the other c
Yuliya22 [10]
The two substances have different densities. Density can be affected by the temperature of a substance. Since they have to same volume but weigh differently, they have different densities. Remember, density = mass/volume

What is the maximum number of hydrogen atoms that can be covalently bonded in a molecule containing two carbon atoms?a) 2b) 3c)
aksik [14]

Answer:

The correct answer is Option-D (6 Hydrogen atoms).

Explanation:

Carbon atom has a unique property of linking to it self and making a chain of carbon called as Catenation. In a molecule having two carbon atoms there must be a bond between the two carbon atoms. The bond can be saturated (single bond) or unsaturated (double or triple bond). But as the statement states maximum number of hydrogen atoms so, we will asume the bond between two carbon atoms to be single.

As carbon has four valence electrons so, it has the ability to make four single bonds. In given molecule each carbon has already made a single bond with another carbon therefore, each carbon is left with three more unpaired electrons which will make covalent bond with three hydrogen atoms each as shown in attached structure.

Explain the effects of nh3 and hcl on the cuso4 solution in terms of le chatelier's principle
Fittoniya [83]

The Principle of Le Chatelier states that if a system in equilibrium is subjected to a disturbance, the system will react in such a way that it will diminish the effect of that disturbance. Thus, when the concentration of one of the substances in an equilibrium system is changed, the equilibrium varies in such a way that it can compensate for this change.

For example, if the concentration of one of the reactants is increased, the equilibrium shifts to the right or to the side of the products. Also, if you add more reagents, the reaction will move even more to the right until the balance is re-established again, increasing the quantity of products.

In this way, adding HCl to a solution of CuSO4 will produce the following reaction:

CuSO4 (aq) + 2HCl (aq) ⇔ CuCl2 (aq) + H2SO4 (aq)

Initially the solution of CuSO4 in water will be blue, but when adding HCl the solution will change color to green, since the aqueous solutions of CuCl2 are green. By adding more HCl this color will intensify as the balance shifts to the right, producing more CuCl2 and H2SO4.

On the other hand, adding NH3 to a solution of CuSO4 will produce the following reaction

CuSO4 (aq) + 4NH3 (aq) ⇔ [Cu(NH3)4] SO4 (s)

Thus, by adding NH3 to the CuSO4 solution we will observe the formation of a precipitate corresponding to [Cu(NH3) 4] SO4. When adding more NH3, the formation of more precipitate will be observed as the equilibrium moves to the right, producing a greater quantity of [Cu (NH3) 4] SO4.

How many moles are there in 8.50 X 1024 molecules of sodium sulfate, Na2SO3?
DiKsa [7]
Hello!

To solve this question, we need to use the Avogadro's Number, which is a constant first discovered by Amadeo Avogadro, an Italian scientist. He discovered that in a mole of a substance, there are 6,02*10²³ molecules. Using this relationship, we apply the following conversion factor:

8,50* 10^{24}molecules* \frac{1 mol Na_2SO_3}{6,02* 10^{23}molecules}=14,12 molesNa_2SO_3

So, 8,50 * 10²⁴ molecules of Na₂SO₃ represent 14,12 moles of Na₂SO₃

Have a nice day!
