A pail contained 3.68L of water more than a bottle. After Bill poured away 1.2L of water from the pail, the pail contained 3 tim

For the sake of simplicity, let us say that the bottle contains x liters of water.

The pail originally contained x+3.68 L of water
After pouring out 1.2L, the pail contains x+(3.68-1.2)L or x+2.48 L
<span>
(a) How much more water did the pail contain than the bottle in the end?
Since the bottle contains x L of water, the pail (containing x+2.48 L of water) contains (x+2.48) - x more liters of water than the bottle or "the pail contained 2.48 L of water more than the bottle"

</span><span>(b) How much water did the bottle contain?
</span>We are told that after pouring the 1.2L of water out, the pail contained 3 times as much water as the pail. Therefore, 3x = x+2.48. Subtracting x from both sides gives us 2x = 2.48. Dividing both sides by 2 gives us x = 1.24L

In a four year period, about 80,000 acres of coastal wetlands in the United States are lost each year. What integer represents t
klemol [59]

Answer:

-320000

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

Lost Land = 80,000 acres yearly

Duration 4 years

Required

The total change

Represent the total change with y;

y is calculated as thus;

y = Lost\ Land * Duration

y = -80,000 acres * 4

y = -320000\ acres

<em>Hence, a total of 320000 acres were lost during the period</em>

If 4 Maths books are selected from 6 different Maths different English books, how many ways can the seven om Maths books and 3 E
alexgriva [62]

Answer:

Please see the answer below

Step-by-step explanation:

a. Since there’s no restrictions .Therefore , the number of ways = 7!*150 = 756000

b. The number of ways such that the 4 math books remain together

The pattern is as follows:  MMMMEEE, EMMMMEE, EEMMMME, and EEEMMMM

Where M = Math’s Book and E= English Book.

Number of ways = 4!*8!*4*150= 86400 ways.

c. The number of ways such that  math book is at the beginning of the shelf

The number of ways = 6!*4*150 = 432000

d. The number of ways such that  math and English books alternate

The number of ways = 150*4!*3! =2160 ways

e.  The number of ways such that math is at the beginning and an English book is in the middle of the shelf. The number of ways = 4*3*5!*150 =216000 ways.

In solving a jigsaw puzzle, a move consists of joining two clusters, including clusters of just one piece. What is the minimum n
ad-work [718]
Solution: As always, try to find a way of looking at the problem that makes the solution simple. In this problem, regardless of the current state of the puzzle, a move consists of combining two clusters into a single cluster. Therefore every move reduces the number of clusters by 1. Since we begin with 2000 clusters (the single pieces) and end with 1 cluster, we need \[2000-1=\boxed{1999}\] moves to complete the puzzle.

Clark Heter is an industrial engineer at Lyons Products. He would like to determine whether there are more units produced on the
larisa [96]

Answer:

No, at the 0.05 significance level, the number of units produced on the night shift is not larger.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that the mean number of units produced by a sample of 54 day-shift workers was 345. The mean number of units produced by a sample of 60 night-shift workers was 351.

Assume the population standard deviation of the number of units produced on the day shift is 21 and 28 on the night shift.

Let \mu_1 = population mean number of units produced on the day shift

      \mu_2 = population mean number of units produced on the night shift

So, <u>Null Hypothesis</u>, H_0 : \mu_1-\mu_2\geq0  or  \mu_1\geq\mu_2    {means that the mean number of units produced on the night shift is same or lesser on the day shift}

<u>Alternate Hypothesis,</u> H_A : \mu_1-\mu_2  or  \mu_1    {means that the mean number of units produced on the night shift is larger}

The test statistics that will be used here is <u>Two-sample z test statistics</u> as we know about population standard deviations;

              T.S.  =  \frac{(\bar X_1-\bar X_2)-(\mu_1-\mu_2)}{\sqrt{\frac{\sigma_1^{2} }{n_1}+\frac{\sigma_2^{2} }{n_2} } }  ~ N(0,1)

where, \bar X_1 = sample mean number of units produced by a sample of 54 day-shift workers = 345

        \bar X_2 = sample mean number of units produced by a sample of 60 night-shift workers = 351

       \sigma_1  = population standard deviation of the number of units produced on the day shift = 21

        \sigma_2 = population standard deviation of the number of units produced on the day shift = 28

        n_1 = sample of day-shift workers = 54

        n_2 = sample of night-shift workers = 60

So, <em><u>test statistics</u></em>  =  \frac{(345-351)-(0)}{\sqrt{\frac{21^{2} }{54}+\frac{28^{2} }{60} } }

                              =  -1.302

Now at 0.05 significance level, the z table gives critical value of -1.6449 for left-tailed test. Since our test statistics is more than the critical value of z as -1.302 > -1.6449 so we have insufficient evidence to reject our null hypothesis as it will not fall in the rejection region.

Therefore, we conclude that the mean number of units produced on the night shift is same or lesser than those produced on the day shift.
