How many carbon atoms are there in a 1.3-carat diamond? Answer: 1.3 x 10^22 C atoms...
If a 1 carat = 0.20 g ... then 0.3 carat = 0.20 / 0.3 = 0.06 g
Thus, 1.3 carat = 0.26g
Find the moles first:
Moles= Grams / Mm of C
0.26 / 12.011 = 0.0216 mols of C
Atoms = Moles * Avogadro's number (6.022*10^23)
0.0216 * 6.022*10^23 = 1.3*10^22 C atoms

Hope this helps! :)

\boxed{ \ 1,3 \times 10^{22} \ carbon \ atoms \ }

<h3>Further explanation</h3>

Diamond is 100% pure elemental carbon, compressed to its crystal form, under extreme heat and pressure deep within the Earth. The symbol for carbon is C.

<u>Step-1: convert carat to grams</u>

The carat represent the unit of weight for diamonds and other gemstones. From several sources, it is known that 1-carat = 0.2 grams of carbon atoms.

Converting 1.3-carat to several grams of carbon atoms

\boxed{ \ 1.3-carat \times \frac{0.2 \ grams}{1 \ carat} = 0.26 \ grams \ }

So 1.3-carat diamonds are equal to 0.26 grams of carbon atoms.

<u>Step-2: convert grams to moles</u>

From the periodic table of elements, we know that the atomic mass of carbon is 12 g/mol. The relationship between mole, gram, and atomic mass is

\boxed{ \ moles = \frac{grams}{atomic \ mass}}

Converting 0.26 grams to moles

\boxed{ \ moles = \frac{0.26 \ grams}{12 \ g/mol}}

We obtain 0.0217 moles of carbon atoms.

<u>Final step: convert mole to atoms</u>

The relationship between mole, the number of atoms (N), and Avogadro's number is

\boxed{\ moles = \frac{N}{6.022 \times 10^{23}} \rightarrow N = moles \times 6.022 \times 10^{23} \ }

N = 0.0217 \times 6.022 \times 10^{23}

Rounding to 2 decimal places to produce 0.13 \times 10^{23} and in the form of scientific notation is \boxed{\ 1.3 \times 10^{22} \ carbon \ atoms}

So there is \boxed{\ 1.3 \times 10^{22} \ carbon \ atoms} are there in a 1.3-carat diamond.

Quick way

\boxed{\ \frac{N}{6.022 \times 10^{23}} = \frac{grams}{atomic \ mass} \ }

Rearrange it

\boxed{\ N = 6.022 \times 10^{23} \times \frac{grams}{atomic \ mass} \ }

N = 6.022 \times 10^{23} \times \frac{1.3 \times 0.2}{12} \ }

\boxed{\ N = 1.3 \times 10^{22} \ carbon \ atoms}

What is the limiting reactant for the reaction below given that you start with 10.0 grams of Al (molar mass 26.98 g mol-1) and 1
mezya [45]

Answer:

Al

Explanation:

4 Al  +  3 O₂  →  2 Al₂O₃

You need to figure out which one has the smaller mole ratio.  Convert both substances from grams to moles.

(10.0 g Al)/(26.98 g/mol) = 0.3706 mol Al

(19.0 g O₂)/(32.00 g/mol) = 0.5938 mol O₂

Now, use the mole ratios of reactant to product to see which substance produces the least amount of product.

(0.3706 mol Al) × (2 mol Al₂O₃/4 mol Al) = 0.1853 mol Al₂O₃

(0.5938 mol O₂) × (2 mol Al₂O₃/3 mol O₂) = 0.3958 mol Al₂O₃

Since aluminum produces the least amount of product, this is the limiting reagent.

AlexFokin [52]

Answer:

sure

Explanation:

The substance formed after heating the mixture of that of Rahul is caleed a compound. Whereas, Manav's mixture still remains in its current stae that is a heterogeneous mixture.

The compound formed is in black in color whereas the mixture is a mix of brownish-red and yellow.

The compound is a homogeneous mixture whereas the mixture is a heterogenous mixture because of its uneven distribution.

The empirical formula of a gaseous fluorocarbon is CF2. At a certain temperature and pressure, a 1-L volume holds 8.93 g of this
dimaraw [331]

Answer:

C₄F₈

Explanation:

Using their mole ratio to compute their mass

molar mass of carbon = 12.0107 g/mol

molar mass of fluorine gas = 37.99681

let x = mass of carbon

given mass of fluorine = 1.70 g

x / 12.01067 = 1.70 / 37.99687

cross multiply

x = ( 1.70 × 12) / 37.99687 = 20.4 / 37.99687 = 0.53688 g

mass of one mole of CF₂ = 0.53688 + 1.70 = 2.23688 g

number of mole of CF₂ = 8.93 g / 2.23688 = 3.992 approx 4

molecular formula of CF₂ = 4 (CF₂) = C₄F₈
