In general, the presence of atoms of what element(s) makes a molecule polar

Polarity of a molecule doesn't depend only on the presence of certain atom(s). It also depends on symmetry. For example, take the alkanes family C_{n}H_{2n+2}. These molecules are generally nonpolar, because there is no net dipole moment. Now, dipole moment arises due to difference in the electronegativity of carbon and the other element. In organic chemistry, generally these atoms are Oxygen, Halogens, Nitrogen. Because of their high electronegativity, they cause a net dipole moment resulting in polarity.

H_3C-CH_3 is symmetrical and hence non-polar.

H_3C-O-CH_3 is asymmetrical and polar. It's structure is bent because of oxygen lone pairs.

The shape of an atomic orbital is associated with
Diano4ka-milaya [45]

The properties of the atomic orbital are actually dependent on the quantum numbers.

size of atomic orbital: governed by the principal quantum number (n)

shape of atomic orbital: governed by the angular momentum quantum number (l)

orientation in space: governed by the magnetic quantum number (ml)

Since we are asked about the shape, hence the correct answer is:

angular momentum quantum number (l)

What is formula for chromium (III) phosphate trihydrate and cobalt (II) phosphate octahydrate
jolli1 [7]

The formula for chromium (III) phosphate trihydrate is CrPO4- 3H20. This compound if in the anhydrous state, exists as a green crystal whereas a hydrated form violet crystal. The formula for cobalt(II) phosphate octahydrate is Co3(PO4)2•8H2O.

Use the following half-reactions to design a voltaic cell: Sn4+(aq) + 2 e− → Sn2+(aq) Eo = 0.15 V Ag+(aq) + e−→ Ag(s) Eo = 0.80
AVprozaik [17]

Answer:

E° = 0.65 V

Explanation:

Let's consider the following reductions and their respective standard reduction potentials.

Sn⁴⁺(aq) + 2 e⁻ → Sn²⁺(aq) E°red = 0.15 V

Ag⁺(aq) + e⁻ → Ag(s) E°red = 0.80 V

The reaction with the highest reduction potential will occur as a reduction while the other will occur as an oxidation. The corresponding half-reactions are:

Reduction (cathode): Ag⁺(aq) + e⁻ → Ag(s) E°red = 0.80 V

Oxidation (anode): Sn²⁺(aq) → Sn⁴⁺(aq) + 2 e⁻ E°red = 0.15 V

The overall cell potential (E°) is the difference between the standard reduction potential of the cathode and the standard reduction potential of the anode.

E° = E°red, cat - E°red, an = 0.80 V - 0.15 V = 0.65 V
