Rates of effusion of gases is governed by the Graham's Law. This law relates the ratio of the rates of effusion to the ratio of the molar masses of the gases involved. With the assumption that pressure and temperature are similar for both gases, the Graham's law states that,
     (rate of Gas A)/(rate of Gas B) = (molar mass of Gas B)^1/2 / (molar mass of Gas A)^1/2

Substituting the known values to the equation.

Part A:
   rate of C12/ rate of O16 = sqrt (16/12) = <em>1.1543</em>

The rate of C12 is 1.15 faster than O16.

Part B:
   rate of C12/ rate of O17 = sqrt (17/12) = <em>1.19</em>

The rate of C12 is 1.19 faster than O17.

Part C:
   rate of C12/rate of O18 = sqrt (18/12) = <em>1.22</em><em>

It is known that for NH_{3} the value of C_{v} = 0.028 kJ/mol.

Therefore, putting the given values into the above formula as follows.

     \Delta S = C_{v} ln \frac{T_{2}}{T_{1}} + R ln \frac{P_{1}}{P_{2}}

                = 0.028 kJ/mol \times ln \frac{1633}{294} + 8.314 \times 10^{-3} kJ \times ln \frac{200}{1000}

                = 0.0346 kJ/mol

or,             = 34.6 J/mol             (as 1 kJ = 1000 J)

Therefore, entropy change of ammonia is 34.6 J/mol.

Hybridization refers to the mixing of atomic orbitals in an atom. The number of hybrid orbitals needs to be equal to the number of orbitals that have involved in prior to mixing.  

The isolated atoms cannot prevail in a hybridized state as the atom in an isolated state do not form any kind of bond with the other atom, due to which the atomic orbitals do not go through the process of hybridization.
