Answer: 3 m/s

Explanation:

We can solve the problem by using the law of conservation of momentum: during the collision between the two balls, the total momentum of the system before the collision and after the collision must be conserved:

p_i = p_f

The total momentum before the collision is given only by the cue ball, since the solid ball is initially at rest, therefore

p_i = m_c u_c = (0.5 kg)(3 m/s)=1.5 kg m/s

So, the final total momentum will also be

p_f = 1.5 kg m/s

And the total momentum after the collision is given only by the solid ball, since the cue ball is now at rest, therefore:

p_f = m_s v_s

from which we find the velocity of the solid ball

v_s = \frac{p_f}{m_s}=\frac{1.5 kg m/s}{0.5 kg}=3 m/s

Charge is distributed uniformly on the surface of a large flat plate. the electric field 2 cm from the plate is 30 n/c. the elec
AysviL [449]
The electric field produced by a large flat plate with uniform charge density on its surface can be found by using Gauss law, and it is equal to
E= \frac{\sigma}{2\epsilon_0}
where
\sigma is the charge density
\epsilon_0 is the vacuum permittivity

We see that the intensity of the electric field does not depend on the distance from the plate. Therefore, the strenght of the electric field at 4 cm from the plate is equal to the strength of the electric field at 2 cm from the plate:

A bullet blasts from the barrel of a gun upward in the vertical direction with an initial speed of 700 m/s . Find the maximum al
ryzh [129]

The maximum altitude that the bullet will reach is the point at which its velocity is zero. The equation that may be used in order to determine the altitude is,

                                   D = ((Vi)2 – (Vf)2)/2g

Where Vi and Vf are the initial and final velocities, respectively. g is the deceleration due to gravity.

Substituting the known values,

                                    D = ((700 m/s)2 – (0 m/s)2) / (2(-9.8 m/s2))

                                    D = 25000 m

Thus, the maximum height is 25000 m.

For the time needed to reach it, we use the equation,

                                    Vf = Vi – (g)(t)

Substituting,

                                    0 = 700 m/s – (-9.8 m/s2)(t)

The value of t is equal to 71.43 s.

A Labrador retriever breeder needs to determine if three male pups who were born to Sadie, his black Labrador retriever, are the
Novosadov [1.4K]

Answer: The things we know are:

Sadie, the mother, is a black labrador.

Sam, the possible father, is a yellow labrador.

Discarding things such as a scientific indagation, the breeder could look for traits in the pups.

For example, yellow is recessive against black, so if the pups are yellow, there is probable that the father is Sam, none the less, if the pups are black there is also the possibility where Sam is the father, just in this case the color genes that the pups received are the ones of the mother.

A good starting point is looking at the color, the posture, and things like that.

In the end, these things are only statistics, there is not any determination here, the only real (scientific) determinative process is a paternity test.

Suppose an isolated box of volume 2V is divided into two equal compartments. An ideal gas occupies half of the container and the
SpyIntel [72]

Answer:

A. the internal energy stays the same

Explanation:

From the first law of thermodynamics, "energy can neither be created nor destroyed but can be transformed from one form to another.

Based on this first law of thermodynamic, the new internal energy of the gas is the same as the internal energy of the original system.

Therefore, when the partition separating the two halves of the box is removed and the system reaches equilibrium again, the internal energy stays the same.
