During a mission to colonize a new territory, a group of pioneers were to sail across the ocean to a new continent. Before they

set sail, however, a crate of food became infested by a particular species of insect that did not yet exist on the new continent. After the journey, the insects began populating their new surroundings. Which statement best describes how the insect population in the new colony will be different from the original population?

Answer:

The correct answer is-A Genetic diversity in the new insect population will be lower due to the founder effect.

Explanation:

In founder effect, the genetic pool of a population becomes small because a small number of individuals are separated from a large population and established in a new geographical area.

Therefore due to fewer individuals, these individuals would have less genetic variation than the original population and the genetic pool of the new population would also be small. Small gene pool means less genetic diversity.

So when some individuals of particular species of insects that did not yet exist on the new continent populate in their new surrounding then genetic diversity in the new insect population will be lower due to the founder effect.

Classifying the characteristics of dna, mrna, and trna determine from the description if each characteristic applies to dna, mrn
Jlenok [28]
The DNA, mRNA and tRNA are the essential nucleic acids that initiate protein synthesis. The DNA contains the genetic code of our human body in the form of chromosomes. It is composed of nucleic acids like uracil (U), guanine (G), adenine (A) and cytosine (C). The messenger RNA or mRNA carries this code called codons expressed in three-letter codes. Each amino acid has its own assignment of code. The mRNA carries this code to the ribosome which is the site for protein synthesis. The translational RNA or tRNA contains anti-codons to translate the codes in the mRNA into amino acids that link together to form proteins.

What distinguishes archaea from animal cells? View Available Hint(s) What distinguishes archaea from animal cells? Archaea's RNA
lapo4ka [179]

Answer & Explanation:

All archeas are single-celled organisms, and despite having prokaryotic cells, there are both similarities and differences between archaea and bacterial cells and also with eukaryotes.

Archaea have only one cell that has no nucleus or real organelles, and its cells have membranes composed of branched lipids, which greatly alter the structure of the archaeal cell membranes. In addition, the archaea have only one DNA strand (uniqueness).

Animal cells differ from archeas because they are multicellular (organisms with several cells), each one having a nucleus, and they also have specialized organelles.

In addition, animal cells have compounds called phospholipids in their membranes, which are unbranched lipids, and therefore do not cause major changes in the structures of their cells. Finally, animal cells have double-stranded DNA (complementary duplication).

Analyze the relationship between cell size and the stages of the cell cycle
Nonamiya [84]
Actively growing cells are in interphase. When a growing cell reaches its maximum size, it keeps itself small by entering mitosis and cytokinesis and dividing into 2 smaller daughter cells.
